On old walls a strong pva mix, carlite bonding and apply mesh flatten off and multi finish, ob done and bobs ur uncle :P

Dab the wall left to right 10 to 15mm dab, that plus the 12.5mm board thick ness should keep the sparks boxs inside the flush of the board

I always ask sparks to tuck in the cables if they dont well out come the snips, and i make sure the skirtings and door frames are clean for the finishings, respect for following trades, something the sparks lack >:(

Havnt used board finish for at least 12 years in Scotland it,s all multi finish my memories of board are not to pleasant but my old man 45 years plastering says multi is s**t in compared to board finish, move with the times old man i say ;D

Like you said knock off the hard edges then i always pva take youre time till it,s tacky then bonding with a wee bit of multi finish, flatten off then multi all the way to a paint finish
