Repainting a wall with visible joint

Hi all,

I’m about to repaint a wall that has a dodgy plastering job. The plaster joint is visible and uneven:

Any tips on how exactly to prep/sand this area before repainting such that the joint will not be visible? I was just going to lightly sand, but wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with this sort of thing before. Any info will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Sanding block / bigger the size flatter the finish
240 grit or higher
Leave it for a week if you got time to see if any cracks reveal? If so - one time devil filler imo then paint away

Looks to me like it wasn't plastered; just tape&jointed.

Whoever did it is a cowboy.

If that was my house, I'd properly plaster the wall, but you can certainly make it better than it is now, by adding filler, as others have already suggested. However, there's no getting away from the fact that it takes skill and attention to detail to sand a large area like that without defects in the final result.
