Up above, I probably wouldn't fancy going up there, even if those joists are 6/7" wide. If they tip over, through you go. Ply would help because it would brace the boards and distribute weight. Same if you nogged it with full width nogs.

Because each joist is now attached to the other and the weight will spread. A false ceiling would be better but frankly I don’t have the time. I know that’s a s**t thing to say but I don’t, and I still wouldn’t do anything on a job that I didn’t have faith in

I went to a job that was ‘boarded’ and not one screw was in joist and that ceiling stayed up. Was just screwed into the board above

Because it’s old and spongy and I always prefer boarding unless it’s realky not necessary

f**k's sake. Physics 101. Every joist is carrying same weight. Batten's not spread anything :p
 
Well that’s settled then. If @zombie says I’m good to go that’s good enough for me! He’s never been shy about yelling at me in the past so... in zombie I trust!

Oh I know he's not new. I'm 43 and knew all about him when I was a kid. He's been terrorising Merseyside for decades.

But I do like to introduce him to new people, like young @lurpak here. See his little eyes light up when he realises that monsters are real and there's a man running around the UK who can kill people just by peering through a train window at them.

I was just kidding mate with it saying it top left. A lot of people don't no about him though your right.
