Yes. Quite a variety of stuff really. Some new builds, reskims, fair bit of rendering. No large site work of late though. Put it this way, no-one has asked me for a cscs card lately and I'm more than happy about that.

I see, I misunderstood what you said.
 
we had a lab once a few years ago (old business partnership) and the other spread was tearing strips out of him all day, on lunch break the lab lost it and picked up the other spread and smashed him through a load of caber floor, they had a tear up and it got broke up and everything was sweet again.
later on in the day the other spread decided to attack the lab and poured a fresh mix down the inside of his trousers, it went fcuking everywhere, felt so sorry for the fella, the other spread was a c**t though he also threw a trowel full of muck in anouthr labs face from point blank, partially blinded him for life
 
its simple really,tell the lad what you expect from the start,be on time,work hard and put the effort in and get a decent labourers wage for it.if he cant then dont bother coming in,hang around the corners with your chavvy mates instead.everyones got too earn respect,take the piss and theres the door.:RpS_wink:

most labourers have a chip on their shoulder and think that after working for you for a few weeks maybe 2 months they should have a pay rise as they can sweep without being told to! and then they have attitude so you have to give them a push and start all over again!!

does my fooking head in i just want some1 who wants an honest days pay for a honest days work considering they do fook all without being told common sense dirty floor needs cleaning buckets need water plasterer needs plaster simplezz

After being treated like a cu'nt when i was labouring, I swore to myself that I'd never treat anyone working with me like that....and i haven't and wont.

We pay our labourers very well and treat them with respect and they respect us, work hard, listen and learn.

Tell them what to do and if they don't do it don't pick them up, it's a job
 
you try telling some1 that they can be replaced unless they do it right........... i swear to god i must have gone thru about 15 labourers in the last 7 years or so most of them have been whack............ only 1 was bang on but i have to move back from dorset and obviosly he couldnt come to work with me on the monday and now im trying to find some1 who wants more than a job and thats the problem many people see it as a job and not a trade cause i wont let them pick up a trowel unless they can do their trade (labouring) and when they are good at their trade well then they can learn my trade and its that simple

maybe its because im too sexy for my trowel too sexy for my trowel it hurts lol.... i dunno what im doing wrong its not like i shout at them or treat them like s**t i just want them to do as they are told and to do what they are told to do when they are told to do it

he just wasnt worth it mate like i said the set is the most important thing not giving some snot nosed little c**t a beating although i did leave him on the job so im guessing he got the train home or somet but the gaffer hasnt phoned me or anything
 
Maybe its how you tell him? Dunno, seems a real bad run on labs. Maybe need one with more than one brain cell. Theres two of us and we have a youngster who's bob on, Never have to ask him for anything. He just does it. Maybe its because his old fella's a chippie and he laboured on him since he was 14. That said over the years ive had some proper crap apprentices when ive worked for other people. Now im working for myself i've finally found someone worth passing skills onto, for that im thankful.
 
Phoenix you need to s**t in his lunch box. Its not just labourers its kids in general. Most of them can't be arsed to leave their bedroom let alone go to work and sweep up all day. I have 2 go about 2 mile from my house to pick the lab up. He meets me at a shop halfway between me and him and moans that it takes him half an hour to walk. i said if he gives me fuel money I'd pick him up from his house but he won't. We worked in the next street from my house a few months ago and I told him to get a bike and bike to mine. He said what if I can't get a bike? So I just said you've got legs haven't you? Like what's been said before if you get another self employed spread in they usually want to leave a decent job to keep a good rep, get more work from you and work quicker to get it done
 
Its definately hard to get a good youngin these days who want to graft, bring back national service.......:RpS_laugh:

i think your onto somet there teach the lazy sods that you cant just sit in your room playin console and watching porn!!!!!!!! and to think just a few years ago we were all grafting our nuts off to be honoured to pick up a trowel!!!

But thats how i spend a lot of my time. if I were to tell anyone not to watch porn, wouldn't that make me a massive fu'cking hypocrite?
 
no theres a time to wnak and a time to work.......... as a wise old man once told me leave the fcuking about to the fcuking abouters........ didnt make sense then but boy does it make sense now............. the best time to watch porn is after work as you should know danny

I remember when my old man told my granddad that I was "On the trowel now". My nan was even excited.

I do try to get a lab on a trowel asap. Its funny as **** watching someone try to do it the first time

i later found out that he has been with the firm im subbing to for 4 years and been in college for 2 years............. now after that long on site you should know that most important thing is the plaster on the walls and not the 'rumbley in your tumbley' and i mean even the labourer that i had on with me for the 2 days i needed him asked if he could have a bite to eat and he was scraping the floor cleaning up and he came to me and said and i quote ' the kitchen is clean i have swept up the hallway but you havent finished in there yet so no point scraping i have loaded out for the next mix do you mind if i have a sandwich please' and i thought to myself if he can do that after 2 days why cant some1 who has been in the job for 4 years have some pride and look after his little gauge instead of his belly

prob thought after 4 years that he was better than a lab, worked in loads of places and heard loads of qualified blokes saying 'be fooked if im doing that' like they are above everyone else. a proper good lab is worth as much has any good qualified trade
 
I don't think theres an in-between, they either get on with it and do what there told or labour on yourself
Its not that hard nowadays it's manly skimming **** em let them work in a factory earning 200 quid a week for the rest of their lives if theyve got an attitude

to be fair spunky your right ! but just cos your a lab doesnt mean you should be abused all day long by someone who thinks hes above you cos hes qualified!! i should imagine that weve all took the piss and fooked about with the lab/apprentice but to ridicule them constantly just tells me that the people doing it are insecure and wouldnt last 2 mins in the club taking the piiss with me tonight or in any club to be honest
 
You're too young to be spending your Saturday night in the working mens club NPS.
