Re rendering onto block which is prone to cracking. Want to use a Weber or k rend cement base coat with mesh but then sand and cement render on top. Should this be ok? Looked at using a 10mm mesh with just sand and cement but think this will be hard to cover with he sand. Any suggestions?
Hi madmonk. Had a look into Weber Orc last night and looks straight forward. Will see if the local Huws gray stocks it today. Looks good to work with. Can I do it in two coats up to the 16mm before it sets? Going onto new ultralight blocks. Thanks for your help!
Just looking for the easiest option with something I can just paint to match the colour of the existing house as it's an extension I need to render. I've used the k rend base coat before which seemed easy to get a good finish. Not sure on how to finish Weber ocr.
Hi All, Just after a bit of help if you can.
Can I use K rend base coat as first and second coat and then just paint it?
I've used it before years ago but was 1st coat with mesh, second coated and then finished with Silicone coloured finish.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Jon
I think the negative comments are more from the shock of walking out from the lower ceilings into it as it doesn't match the rest of the house. The extension is for an additional bedroom and on suite so thought that it would make it feel a little bigger. hopefully with the amount of insulation...
Hi All!
Just after a bit of feedback if you could!
Just broken into the extension and now ready to start with the internal works. As you can see from the pictures the rooms have been designed to have higher ceilings than normal which I did ask for. Only problem I have now is i'm getting told...
Thanks for your replies guys. Managed to get some answers for what I need to know for putting the cable in from an electrical forum. As said I'm only doing the cable runs ready so won't be doing the fixing so just needed to know what to put in ready!
Sorry I won't be doing the final bit just want to make sure the wires are there if needed ready for them as if I don't do it now then they will have to be surface mounted and will ruin my job!
Sorry not really a plastering questions but I'm about to board existing wiring runs and want to make sure everything is in place before it's all done. Electrics are from above so will all be covered over and wont be able to change them.
Some of you may have come across this and the electrician...
Hello,
Just looking to paint new sand and cement render and just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for the first coat.
The render has been drying over the last 2 weeks and I just want to get some paint on it to seal it. Anyone use a special sealer or stick with a watered down coat...
On a new build property would it be more common to render the property with the windows in or before the windows are fitted.
I would go with after the windows are fitted as then all reveals can also be finished at the same time.
What is the general rule on this and if rendered before will a...
Hello!
I've been asked to board over an existing fireplace which had the old Baxi boiler in which has now been replaced with a combi system located in the Kitchen. They have asked for it to be boarded over and then patched in with the existing plaster as to keep the mess to a minimum and speed...
Thanks everyone for the replies. Think I've got the idea of it now. The project was for the conversion of an old conservatory which I was planning on taking down and starting again. Think I will be keeping to the old base now and just building within the limits to keep it classed as a...
Thanks for all the replies! If the dpc of the existing building is lower than the finished floor level of the extension (Timber floor on property) and I want a solid floor in the extension will the membrane I put down stop any issue with having the finished floor level above dpc inside?
Sorry should have put a bit more info in my first post. Its more just the basic principal of the set up I'm after.
Say footings are 1 meter deep, then filled with concrete to required level its the next bit I'm trying to work out.
Solid block work or brick up to dpc level. If your joining to...
Evening all!
I know this is a Plastering forum but considering most people are really helpful I thought I would ask to see if anyone could help!
I'm trying to work out the process of extension footings and up the build to DPC? Does anyone have any knowledge of or know where I could get the...
haha no was thinking if not the Fiat would go for the Partner or Berlingo. Brother has had one for about 10 years and still going strong! Do you have the older one or the facelift model they brought in about 2002. Brother has the older one so know they go for ever!
I've looked at the connects but always seem to hold the value for the year I'm after. Though you get what you pay for I suppose!
Mate has a Vauxhall Combo which is a good van. Been looking today but didn't see any of the Astra vans about.
Plenty of Peugeot Partners or the Citreon models about...
Hello!
Hope everyone is well!
Just wanted to see if anybody has ever had or still have a Fiat Doblo van and are they any good?
Not looking for anything new just around the 2003 -2004 reg for a start off van and they seem to be reasonable.
Any other suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks
I know been trying to get out of it for ages as can see the pitfalls already but he has been asking me for ages! His house is full of the stuff! Got the kitchen and bathroom to replace so its a big job on its own without the artex getting in the way! Think I will get him on the sugar soap before...
Thanks for the reply. I think the plan will be to pull down the ceiling and any walls that are boarded already but I know two walls are solid on the external side and don't think we will have the room in the kitchen to overboard these.
Hello! Hope everyone is busy!
Just after a few tips if possible.
I've been asked to plaster a friends kitchen over the existing artex. Normally I would take off high points, clean, pva then first coat. Let this pull tight leaving for a little longer than normal then on with the second coat...
I do quite a bit at the moment already for my boss who also owns rental properties. I get to do the maintenance on these and have gain loads of experience with all the different problems they seem to get.
I think the next step for me would be to invest in a small van and start trying to get...
I would love to do it and do take pride in my work so think I would gain a lot out of it.
If I didn't have a mortgage to cover I would just go for it but the thought of it all going to the wall puts me off!
I have two mates an electrician and a plumber who have gone self employed in the last...
Jack of all trades and master of none seems to be a few peoples view.
I think sometimes it can be a benefit to customers who don't want every different trade in the house for a small job if one person can do the lot!
haha sorry, was looking for people who may have tried to start such a business or still do and what peoples thoughts were on this!
I've been thinking about doing it for years but always think the demand is not enough or you will end up doing so many small jobs and running around it would never...
thought that maybe the case with the marshalltown and don't think I will every use it enough to get I broken in. Will try the speedskim for now I think and maybe look again at the refina stuff.
haha yes don't worry I do take care with all my kit. Cost too much to not! No not used one and to be honest I am happy with the 14 for laying on. it was more for finishing off. Just seen it used before and is more of a time thing!
Yes they do look a bit delicate. Have you used it on sand & cement render or is it not strong enough?
Refina stuff looks good but again have been told you need to be very careful not to damage them. Thats why I was looking at the Marshalltown 20" trowel as they will last!
So I am thinking of adding a few extra tools to my plastering kit and wanted to see if anybody had used the following tools and what peoples opinions were on them!
