Just wanted some opinions on a problem ive come across...did a full reskim a few weeks ago and on our first day they had all their virgin boxes installed....in one room we were to rip down the ceiling, board and skim the full room.... I put the virgin box in a rubble sack to protect it and did the work...got a call yesterday and customer said they can hear grit in the box now and are replacing it at a cost of £250...they told me ive got to pay the cost even though the box works fine. Ive agreed to pay it but just wondered what others would do?

If it was not disconnected, it's their fault.
I did say to them they screwed in the ariel cables so would have to work around it as didnt want to mess with it an f**k up the working in the back of it

why they would install new boxes in a room where your ripping a ceiling down is just crazy
I said the same when they said I got to pay but basically said I should have worked around them...had them in 3 rooms we had to strip wallpaper, board ceilings and skim

Your paying for a box that 'works fine ' but because it has grit in it .. sounds too me there having you over

Never had a claim made but had a few incidents regarding wi fi hubs.

I used to bag and tag em but one over heated and another got wet and dirty, both customers were looking at me like it was my problem, I explained I done what I could to avoid the problem but because they wanted there internet so badly this is what happens.

I disconnect everything now including the WiFi in a 3 story student house, f**k em.

Told the I wouldnt pay without an invoice from virgin

Pity they didn't put it in an email or text for proof its ' working'

I always tell people everything like that's removed or work wont be done ..... avoids any potential problem

I tell them if it's in room I'm working in and it gets damaged,,no claim.
In a nice way.make sure they give you old box.

I know its of no use to you on this occasion lodan but in future put explicitly that you except no responsibility forvany fixturexand fittings including carpets furnitures etc in the room.

I havevan empty room policy but I'm luck enough to be able to pick and choose my work but can remember what its like trying to please everyone but just putting yourself in impossible situations.

Hope you get it sorted I've previously stapled through a computer/ phone cable when tacking down a tarp to protectca floor and I excepted that was my fault and was happy to psy and sort.

I've also when knocking off plaster in 1 room pushed the brick slightly which peirced the wallpaper on the hallway which again I arrangedcto sort and pay.

Things can happen And I'm happy to be fair but equally I go waaaaaay out of my way to avoid pitfuls these days to the point that I'll happily not take a job on.

Think your on the right track with asking to see the invoice etc.

If I'm reading between the lines though and itsca job off 1 of those trade sitescthen yer cooked youl just get mugged off or loose any rep your trying to build up.

Correct pal...its all you can do play the long game I'm afraid...

A mate of mine used to get most of his work from these sites but took me the things he used to have to put up with were unreal...

Tbh I've gone to help him outca few times but more than once I've go my tools out and put them back in van after seeing what conditions he was lettingbhimself in for, new fitted kitchens that wanted skimming, bathrooms even had new floorings laid and settees delivered for rooms that needed plastering, beds in rooms the lists were endless.

I used to feel sorry for him really as he needed the work but fuk me I'd rather work at tescos!!!

Welcome to the world of domestics I reckon your wise to ask for an invoice and done all you could to protect it and they just trying it on you have come back with a counter offer of show me an invoice so don't let it bother you see what they come up with next

In fact thinking about it if it's working ... Bell me tomorrow and let's go round and see the inbreds and the stinky virgin box

Idiots

Yeah feeling a bit robbed tonight to be honest but the only other way is stand my ground and say take further action if you want....it was a big 500k house so strike me as the type who would take it further...sadly probably not worth the hastle of going to war over it.

Thats the worst bit pete I asked if it works and they said yes no problem but wont risk the dust near the wiring inside the box

Can you answer a negative review on my builder? If yes, I'd tell em to poke it and leave an explanation.

Yeah you can reply to anything negative to give your side

If it works stuff um .. They just trying to get money they paid you back.

Tight arse in bred plonkers

What they going to do if you don't pay
Can't take someone to court for dust particles

And sorry to all the work site people I am not ranting about it again but @gps if you remember I said this in the my builder thread ... I asked who decides what is right when trades get into a dispute on these sites ,they never back up the trader always the public

If your in the right and mostly we are when its things like this I would stand your ground over this you did everything right and think they re just trying it on if I'm honest so don't let it bother you and if they think a box is 250 quid find one online cheaper and say why do you want 250 when its only x amount on the net seems quiet a high price for one of them chin up lodan don't let them get to you

A shame if it ends a negative review as was a big 3 week job and the work was bang on, all happy with that side of things

Yeah the posh one, should have known the would of been sticklers with a house like that
I don't know now what to say I thought it was just one room job..

Can't you open the box up on these things and Hoover it out , I still wouldn't pay
True what pagey says I had this crap on the job I had bother with they are all flipping weirdos out there

Idea for ya, don't pay bomb off my builder and go on rated instead ?

Just cant believe the feckers installed 3 of those boxes on my day 2 of a 15 day job....the job paid ok so i'll just take it on the chin and learn for next time, I was just interested what peoples opinion would be. If this job was just spreading s**t up the walls it would be easy....its the people that make it hard

Any reasonable customer would just accept that these things happen. They have a few bob and you're starting out. f**k them for even asking. Guy fitted a carpet for me he went through sky cable but didn't realise it. I just went out and bought some more cable fixed it myself. Had two claims in the past one for chipping a bath and one for ruining a new carpet in a room I wasn't working in (leaky pva bucket) paid both through liab insurance £100 xs and was happy to thought it was reasonable. Don't pay this one lodan this isn't yours to pay, you tried.again, f**k them ambulance chaser chavs.

See what Codfather and the rest of um says about it all after football and pub ..

Getting wound up here your job and England can't score ... Again

And also have you unscrewed it and had a look? Get on YouTube type fix virgin box (prob get some porn too ) & see if you can work it out. I've tinkered with customers boxes (steady) before and got them going again. Take a photo of the inside before you start so you know how it's wired up. Just re screwing the points can eradicate hissing/crackling etc.
