    Megamixer mm21

That is a really good deal!!!! Refina are doing the mm30 for £454 inc vat including £100 of free tools (you'll have to check if that offers still on). I like the peace of mind of being able to return it to Refina and not back to either Germany or someone small acting as a middle man in the uk.

Quiet times-cracking on with converting cellar

Sounds daft, but the cellar is a room already. Pretty sure it used to be the wash room for the house... Or maybe even the kitchen at one point. Ceiling height will be achieved, no pump as very little damp, and there is a fully opening 4ft square window to the front of the house which can be used...

    Anyone on here use Checkatrade?

BNI is a waste of time, effort and money. It only works if you are in the fortunate position to be managing your trade and not actually picking a trowel up.

    Megamixer mm21

I just got my 2nd ever ??mm21?? (the biggest refina do) last one I got reconditioned, and it has lasted a good 7 years and its still going strong, but paddle went the other month, and when I rang up to order another I got duped in to buying a new mm21 with paddle which happily came with £100...

    Soundproofing

Got a small domestic job to price where two flats are separated by single skin brickwork do sound travels through. Have told him best option would be to install a stud wall independent of brick wall, using sounds batts between studs and board with sound lock or even just double board it with...

    Skim before tiling?

Gooners info was brilliant. The unfortunate thing with this question is there is no correct way to do it. There are people (mainly tilers) who want it skimmed always to make their life easier, but the question is IF it is skimmed the plasterer will be bonding the skim with pva, and as Gooners...

    Imprefections on newly plastered wall

He hasn't flattened his first coat in and it looks like you can feel that ridge on the first pic!!!!! Shut your eyes and try it. If you can feel it you will def be able to see it when painted. Get him back, put some sandpaper in his hand, shouldn't take more than half an hour! Ha

Quiet times-cracking on with converting cellar

Always planned to do the cellar conversion this winter/new year and had job cancelled on me the other week which would have seen me through to mid jan, so it's time to crack on! The cellar is in a mid terrace and is back to earth on one wall-wi visible penetrating damp, other walls have...

    Limelite and gypsum

Thanks for the replies both of you. The only problem is that you have both highlighted my dilemma... The lime method is basically what Tarmac have Recomended except theyve said to mixed sbr in with lime high impact finish and over skim walls. The gypsum method is going to be drastically...

    Limelite and gypsum

Right then... I have been asked to price a job where a chemical dampcourse has been installed in to a cottage with solid stone walls. The plasterers who followed the damp course guys on have applied limelite Reno to 1m high and not bothered skimming over the top as customer is messing around...

    Sbr for reskims

Spoke to another plasterer the other day who recommended priming walls with and then chucking some sbr in the mix for reskims. Anyone ever done this approach instead of pva-ing up the walls?

Hi guys, I've just bought a victorian terraces house which has lovely original cornicing and ceiling rose in the living room. I want to strip all the existing paint off it to really bring out the original mould. Obviously i dont want to damage the mould in doing so. Can anyone advise as...

dot n dab on painted wall

i can't believe you lot dab on to original plasterwork. Surely if the skim comes away from the base coat the whole lot (inc your dab and boards) will end up on the floor. i'm in the process of buying a mid-terraced house at the mo. was thinking about leaving original plaster on, battening out...

Hi guys, I have got to strip the paint off some timber perlins before re-boarding an skimming. I have tried ??nitro-mors?? in the past which was rubbish, also tried sanding them with a belt sander, which worked, but cost a fortune in sandpaper cos it got clogged up with paint every 2...

    which backing plaster?

i've got an external solid brick wall to patch and plaster back. The thing is the area that needs patching is where the old chimney breast used to be. There's a bit of old soot etc that'll need scratching off, but what backing plaster should i use? On soid brick walls i'd usually use a...

    new van... transit???

spunky - haven't got one yet, so not sure how false floor would work. Best advice would be to speak to a joiner mate. I'm guessing to use quite a thick ply wood - 3/4 inch works fine on my transit connect, and then span the 4 foot with 3x2 on edge at 400mm centres. That's gotta give enough...

    new van... transit???

Cracking response lads! I've got an 04 transit connect at the mo and i love it. Always planned to get a 'proper' transit later on this year for the crappy weather. I've put a false floor in the connect and it really has served me well. I just knocked it up out of 3x2 and 3/4 inch ply...
