Had a few cracks here and there recently...have scrimmed the joints with RandJ builders red label scrim...I've noticed it's thinner than for example Wickes. Do you think it makes much difference to crack resistance for skimming?

yes catnic is orange I get a box from RnJ it's more tacky & doesn't thread like the other stuff - so far the best I've managed to get hold of

Well worth the extra quids

it's not any more expensive I get a box works out at £2-£3 a roll the white un sticky & threads rolls are £4-£5 in BQ Travis about the same

we carried out some work for cambridge university, they phoned up british gypsum to find out what is the strongest scrim to use? bg answer was the paper tape what we had to bed on with set. grrrrr.

The last few descent sized jobs i've done onto board work i used wet and stick paper tape and it seems descent.

artex launched some new scrim I saw the other day... one was orange and tough and the other is very very fine.... got some samples somewhere

R n J is around corner from me paper tape is in the white book from BG as is using the filler they recommend on smoothing Artex ( pushing their own products ) it slips my mind the filler type material they recommend over Artex (it's dire) the paper tape method is supposed to be the strongest (I'm informed )

Artex need to launch something I'm just flattening the stuff & have been for a good few years - shame really some of it is really nice

I paper tape all my board work and never any come backs, only use scrim if customer boards it and its s**t so they can feck off. Hessian on the internals if i float a wall next to it.

This one came out a good while back in my local merchants, it seems a lot thicker gauge doesn't fray and is mega sticky, I can prep a room the evening before and all the tape will be on the next day.

Not long after R&J bought out a tape that was also orange, the difference is noticeable, its a lot thinner and frays IMO.
Silver scrim is also good if you can get it, but end of the day if its gonna crack it'll crack scrim wont stop it.

this one is also in BQ at £5 a roll - I won't buy or use the other rolls of white untacky & fraying rolls now / wasting time using the stuff

I think it's a big con in bringing all these different coloured rolls its just another money making scam ..that euro scrim is the best I've used and can get it for £2.50 plus vat..jewsons scrim is awfull like but I can't go to a builder and say or get that new coloured scrim thats double the cost he will just laugh at me

it's no more expensive than the builders rubbish he supplies you - I'd buy my own if it meant I'd not have to put up with fraying & skrim dropping off @£2-£3 a roll
