I had an ideal job for it yesterday a small artex ceiling and skim half a wall over some cracks I had to tape. The room was 3m by 2.7m, I over boarded and used just under 6, 6x3 plaster boards a bit of PVA, screws and a bag and half of multie. I got to the job at 1 and was gone for 4.30 but if I used the uni I would of been gone for 3. Now her is the problem which job do you think would of been best? Which job would you want done if it was yours? There is only so much you can charge and I guarantee the customer wouldn't of been happy paying me what he did for 3 hours work, that looks simple. I knew he was happy to pay for over boarding coz he thought he was getting a better job which he is because I can guarantee it but I never guarantee over skims on artex.
I agree a price is a price but you will get a better price for over boarding and a better job.I never cared if it was 3 hours or 3 days a price is a price the job... if I wanted a wage I would be employed
I don't work past 3pm I have to get back to walk my dog before it get dark I used to work later.I had an ideal job for it yesterday a small artex ceiling and skim half a wall over some cracks I had to tape. I get what your saying but what are you guaranteeing?
That the plaster will stay on or that there won't be no cracks?
If there's to much movement in the joist some
Scrim won't stop this will it?
Same concept here Weber,Parex BG all follow.
A guarantee isn't really worth anything as there are to many variables.
If it did crack what would you do?
Say you filled it and it came back?
Those problem jobs, very rare but always one.
Ceilings are a bigger I find.
This isn't any sort of slating or bad mouthing mate I'm just interested how/what others would do?
This is why i recommend over boarding painted or artex ceilings with cracks. If i scrim or paper tape them there still could be a join which was not visible that could crack after the overskim, but if i overboard and paper tape then 99% sure no come backs. The worst ones are bungalows which have one big crack a lot of times so i overboard and try to span this crack if i can.
I guarantee if it does crack I will repair it but it never does, I explain over boarding is the best job to reduce cracking. That's the word I use "reduce" and that's all you can do, if there is movement in the building the crack will be obvious. Over skimming artex your adding more weight to a ceiling you know nothing about ie no tapes, loose tapes, loose nails, wallpaper underneith but with an overboard you don't have to worry and a better job. You are also staggering the first skin of boards adding more strength to the ceiling so that's why I offer a guarantee.I get what your saying but what are you guaranteeing?

Nice to see u gave it a go ..at least u know what u can or cant do with it..Been doing a bedroom in a bungalow on old paint etc I decided get a bag of uni as well as the bags of multi I must be mad as Bnq £10 for the uni
first time I'd used it ,different texture smoother ,nice stuff to use the wall I chose had a couple sockets on it n a light switch best thing instead of using pva as I tend to slap on too much and it runs to the electrics so I put my first coat on I'd to mix too much so it still nice n wet I used the same mix for the 2nd speedskim it n left it christ does it ever set dI'd noticed it blistered in places trowel bit too hard it would tear
I'm not the best plasterer but not the worst I enjoy it all aspects if u said fit 8 double sockets for a day or plaster for a day I'd choose the plastering
But price for £10 which is the cheapest around my way at Bnq n Travis have stop selling it blaming the price it set at the other is Jewsons same price again it doesn't take a brain surgeon which I choose 2 bags for the price of 1
I used to think I was the best plasterer in the world ..then I met a guy called super Louie he was the best I seen in terms of how much he spread and quality of his finish.would I say to him I do a better job..no because no one is the best..everyday is a school dayI guarantee if it does crack I will repair it but it never does, I explain over boarding is the best job to reduce cracking. If u want to overboard fine ,I do as well when I think it's needed but I have and will always overskim if I think it's ok..don't think there is many people on here who need telling how to skim a ceiling or board
Yes matebeen on the sauce?
That's like randomly generated words put in to a massive sentence!
I taught super Louie re read what I said, I said it was a better job and it is.I used to think I was the best plasterer in the world ..then I met a guy called super Louie he was the best I seen in terms of how much he spread and quality of his finish.would I say to him I do a better job..no because no one is the best..everyday is a school day

No point pva ing with uni...intended on doing opposite wall as well but dried to fast ...used what was left of the mix to do side of fire....didn't take picture..back there tomorrow..will post
Time settings info on back of bag is worth a read before use .. on painted surface no different to using multi just flatten straight away..happy daysInteresting thread which has convinced myself to have a go at uni! not bothered on price as it will passed on to the customer .how many quarter buckets of leftover skim gets thrown away? when not paying for it !
