Mate I just glad u and others share experiences with it if no one talks about using it no will know what to expect.I have had some walls flash set etc or take ages to set so can understand you..hardest part when using it is looking at a wall or ceiling thinking will it be ok on this surface..the more use the better that gets some times I do think no to uni ...I did a bedroom 2 week ago 1920s semi 2rd smallest bedroom with uni on ceiling and 2 small walls first mix was ok on ceiling two small walls nearly caught me out ...finished the other 2 walls with uni and in the middle of one wall dry instant and top and bottom were ok laid in a couple of times to sort out came together in the end. When I went to do the next room this Saturday gone I used pva and multi just cus I didn't want the same stress...I put that room in my head for next time I come across a wall that looks like that if u know what I mean....regards the damp builder used dry zone and said no need cus he injected in mortar line ...I got feeling it was something to do with the waterproofer on yours but I am no expect
Just use to pva ...never used all the others u mentioned.evostick pva...sometimes still do still use multi and evostickPrevious to using unifinish did you use pva all the time or get into the grit, betakontakt, bondit, etc?
No point pva ing with uni...intended on doing opposite wall as well but dried to fast ...used what was left of the mix to do side of fire....didn't take picture..back there tomorrow..will postWould be interesting if you left a first coat of uni to dry over night or just a few hours with a light brush for key and how it would go, in theory maybe it would hang about a bit when the fresh applied?
If i was doing that room you did today i would be coating microgobetis on everything then filling out any holes if any and beading up. In afternoon maybe just get the ceiling on.
When you put your ceiling on did you not think about a coat of tight pva on walls to help for later on with the uni? Did you put an oppposite wall on too or just the one in pic?
View attachment 7887 View attachment 7888 View attachment 7889 Gloss ceiling took around 2 1/2 hours was nice to use and flatten all with mt finished with nela superlex. Before middle and end. Was supposed to do a wall too in the afternoon but did a boarded ceiling which had been up for months so put uni on first coat and it went really well with hardly any suction so topped with multi.
Did a wall last week with uni which had been stripped of paper with a bit of paste still on and patchy paint, it went on fine but showed patchy on first coat where paint was missing and paste reaction so left it go off longer than usual before top coat and finished well.

Nice to see u got a good finish with it and u judged how it was reacting .. the uni then multifinish is a thought ...i not tried that one
Mainly time saved for me..i do more domestic than site..i said before, I had time to get used to it when uni 2 trials were being done ..i never had a problem with uni 1 ..i know others did though(i read on here what happened to people)i know most probably sick of me going on about it but for domestic plasterers when the surface is right it's a winner.i do still use multi but try to put me money where my mouth is in terms of using it.i am same as every other plasterer i always want best price on gear.i do add abit on a quote to cover cost of it if i gonna use it but totally agree with all that refuse to use it CUs of cost.@theplasterman Just out of interest mate as ive never used Uni finish, why is it your plaster of choice ? Cheaper quicker ?
Over artex is it's best performance u have so much time with it..as with multi just let the first coat really set a bit before second coat ..it does trowel up better than multi on artex..no fat/rubbery crap and when its done it's done .You've convinced me! Like you, most of my work is domestic these days and 90% of it is flattening artex. I reckon taking your time with the first coat and getting it flat to start with will help. Just gotta find a stockist!
Fair enough point..the room I posted on this page I did the artex ceiling then intended to do the wall I posted and the opposite wall it dried quick time n I only got side of fire on,next day I would of tried to do the other wall n fire place wall I one mix n be gone but I had priced him 2 days n did 2 then to me I could of gone early but had to do till 3pm..but on a good background I would of gone earlyI'm also domestic but still not convinced, surely if the only one wall could go on because the suction was to high then wouldn't more time be spent using another gauge to get the wall on that could have gone on if it were glued up whilst doing the ceiling ?
To get merchants to get it in stock think u have to tell um to order it in if they will ..they always cheaper than b n qMy mate is doing a small box room 2moro night and has been ringing around a few places in coventry. Nobody has it and b & q want £11 a bag apparently
