One B&Q have it and have made a display for it in Cheshire so are others going to follow because they are not a franchise?

Have you any plans to bring out coloured plaster? So the punters didnt have to paint it. Like krend but plaster. If you sponged it i believe you could achieve an even consistent colour. Just an idea

One other thing we've been asked is if it can be mixed with normal plaster to make it go further - the answer to this is no, because as you might expect, mixing it with anything else will make it diluted and then it won’t attract magnets!

A great idea, we'll pass it on! There's a lot of things in the pipeline so you never know, we'll be sure to let you know about them first.

Thanks @BritishGypsum. I will definately be giving it a try soon on my kitchen extension. Had hoped to try it sooner but the two places I was going to use - health centres - it changed their minds. Anyway im off to spoons now. See you again

Thanks for taking part, we're glad it was useful. Have a good evening and maybe treat yourself to Guinness! :birra:

Thanks Paul, some good answers there but i can't help think your missing a common theme here. Those that have used it and those that haven't we're all saying the same thing....it's too expensive.

Average joe doesn't go to trade shows and grand design events. If your pricing it for a high end market thats fine but people are saying the same thing. For a mass market its too pricey.

Thats not an opinion its a fact, £80+ a bag if im not mistaken is is slightly more than the average persons take home daily wage so even a small wall would be 2 days graft before they pay a plasterer...

Okay guys, we're signing off now too, but if you have any other questions we'll follow them up on Monday.

If you need any more information, the Rooms Made For You website has loads of information and, of course, you can always get in touch.

We'll keep promoting it to as many home owners as possible so we can increase demand and help you get more jobs!

(y)

Thanks,
British Gypsum

Why did they change their mind?

I think they thought it would be too expensive. they liked the idea for behind the reception but it just petered out when the costings were made. shame it would have been perfect for that. its a tad expensive but thats the way it is

So that cleared that up :) nice to have you onboard answering questions, so is everyone clear? I've used the stuff and think it is amazing even a breakthrough in construction, it is something I would never dream of and when it was first mentioned I thought it was a joke just like all the people I mention it to. Unless you have done a wall seen it work and watch kids play on it you can't start to appreciate it, I've had my mates look at a wall I done for the kids and they spent an hour playing noughts and crosses and spelling dirty words (sad I know). The point I'm making is the wall becomes interactive so it becomes more than a wall and its up to you to use it. The good thing is it will always be magnetic so it's a good investment and if anyone has seen the latest TVs by LG they are wafer thin and stick to your wall with magnets :) The problem seems to be the price and ive said before it's quite hard to sell to the man in the street because they are doing the same as most people they are comparing it to plaster. Its like comparing tiles and wallpaper they are two different things, I'm starting to think it might be priced right or there abouts for what you get, let's not forget most kids have laptops, mobiles, TVs, xboxes Blaa Blaa blaa these cost a hell of a lot of money so I woudnt really worry about people spending on their kids you just need to show the benefits and steer away from normal plaster.

Hi @Kylewesley, first of all, nice work there! Thanks for the pictures. Obviously, Magnetic Plaster isn’t going to be used in every house but we certainly didn’t make it for the ‘elite’ and there are some really good opportunities to use it.

When we were planning the product, we spoke to a lot of different homeowners who all said they’d be interested in using the product and who weren’t put off by the price. Even renters said that a Magnetic wall would be useful and they wouldn’t mind leaving it behind and we’ve heard this a lot at the exhibitions we’ve been to. In terms of where they’d use it, it really came across that any good wall has the potential to be a Magnetic wall whether in a new or existing home – children’s bedrooms, kitchens and home offices were the most popular suggestions.

Hopefully that’s useful for when you’re selling it to customers – we know it’s not always easy so that’s why we’ve been talking to them directly to drum up interest.

But, if there’s any ways you can think of that would help you when you’re telling your customers about Magnetic Plaster, please let us know!

Hi @BritishGypsum

Just a thought have you thought about a sheet of plaster board with either the magnetic raw materials mixed into the gypsum so it can be cut with Stanley knife.
Or with a continuous thin layer of metal in the plasterboard cut with grinder/ skill saw and finished with skim or t & j.

I'm happy to take royalties for my ideas!!

Their are many more ideas in the think tank!!

Hi guys,

Apologies if you saw our post on the other Thistle Magnetic Plaster thread but we thought it might be useful to introduce ourselves here too - we are specialists in permanent magnets and are the latest supplier of Thistle Magnetic Plaster.

It's great to read the questions and answers from Paul at British Gypsum. It seems there is some real interest in the product which we think is fab. As it appears that some people are struggling to find a local supplier it might be useful to know that we offer a next day delivery service for orders placed before 3pm Monday to Friday for £4.95 + VAT.

We are now listed on the Rooms Made For You website and you can find the product here:

http://www.first4magnets.com/other-...y-british-gypsum-25kg-bag-5sqm-coverage-p8280

If anyone has any questions or questions from their customers about which magnets to use to mount certain items then please let us know. We are happy to answer any questions you might have - we have plastered walls in our office so we can even try applications out! Please feel free to get in touch via sales@first4magnets.com or 0845 5194701. Alernatively, you can find us on Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks :)

Matt

image.jpg Got a wall to do tomorrow got it prepped today :) in my kids school so see what interest comes from it. Also my local B&Q are selling it from August so I would say if it's hitting Grimsby the rest of the world will follow ;) but they are now stocking unifinish and the pile don't seem to be getting any smaller but at over £10 a bag I doubt many spreads will be on it. @BritishGypsum why are all the charts you supply to B&Q about the coverage of your plasters all wrong? I have brought it up over a year ago with my local one and its on your toes. Every plaster on the chart covers about 2.5metres or there about and even the bond it only covers 2.5 m lol so get it sorted. Here we go I will post more pics up once it's skimmed

They have a lime based plaster in America which you can get in any colour,it just needs a trowel finish with no sponging,it's basically a thicker paint, the only problem is the price I think the average 4x4m room would be well over a grand in material. @Loren may know of the product.

I haven't seen an interior lime plaster around here that is available in colors. I've added my own quite a few times, a friend of mine who's family owned a high end paint store was helping me come up with raw pigment mixes that I was adding to my materials on different jobs, I just found out that they sold their business and my friend is retiring, so I'll probably resort to getting color packs from my regular material supplier that are meant for stucco finishes and letting customers know that I can only get close to the finish colors they are looking for. With the plasters around here most people aren't looking for color consistency, they want the splotchy swirls, otherwise you might as well paint the plaster. Said something on the Clay finishes thread about a job I did recently- the American Clay company has color packs along with color charts with their products. http://www.americanclay.com . And then there's another company that has a colored finish although I have a hard time calling their product a plaster even though they do…. http://www.modernmasters.com/products.asp?mode=group&gid=95
