Going over solid clean dash with the right base coat can be a better job than going over brick. I have had really old solid render on where the customer has insisted it comes off for their peace of thick mind.

Ok, off it comes and a happy customer. Little do they know that all the bricks has been knocked loose and the wall ties are tied to zilch!

As I said at the very top, we're broadly happy with it - not saying the whole job is shite.

As for going over dash, it does make me wonder why we've paid for the rest of it to be chipped off then! But anyway, that's why I've asked for advice on here - not pretending I know all about it.

Sounds like that area can stay as is then?

And im not saying that its a top job, its just human nature to look deeper if you find a fault.
