I have just taken tiles off an old kitchen and am getting ready for plastering.
The walls are uneven and I have tried to get some of the tile adhesive off which is sometimes taking another layer off right back to the original wall, and sometimes it comes off clean. Also some of the walls sound hollow in places.
I have a couple of questions... getting opposing views from plasterers
1) Do i need to take the adhesive off or will an initial skimming to get the wall more even be needed before plastering?
2) Will adding a coat of PVA be enough to remediate the cracks etc?
I also had a wall that needed plasterboarding before plastering as there was an existing glass door in the wall which we kept as well as a 3ft x 2ft x 1 ft hole where some pipes had been.
The bloke who plasterboarded told us to apply blue grit before the plasterboard was put on which I did but it was still wet/tacky when he came to plasterboard and he said it didnt matter.
3) is to ok for the plasterboard to have been put up with wet/tacky blue grit?
4) he boarded over the old doorway (he did add regular batttens and Knauf insulation) but it sounds hollow when you tap it - is this ok?
5)he boarded over the hole without filling it in - will this cause any problems when it is plastered or should we try and fill it with expanding foam?
thank you!
