Looking for some advice

Hi all. I’m looking for some advice, I’ve removed a thin layer of polystyrene insulation off of the external walls in a bedroom and left is residue of some sort of adhesive. It looks like it would be nigh on impossible to remove it before plastering and was wondering if something like blue grit or a stabilising solution would be suitable to put on it before plastering?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

Hey, That looks like old adhesive left from polystyrene insulation — it’s a pain to get off completely! As long as it’s sound and not flaking, you don’t necessarily have to remove every bit of it. Id give it a good scrape and rough sand just to take off any loose or glossy parts, then apply Blue Grit over the top to give your plaster something to stick to. If it still feels a bit dusty or powdery after brushing, you can go over it with a stabilizing solution or a watered-down SBR mix first, then apply the Blue Grit once that’s dry. Main thing is making sure the surface is firm and not greasy or soft — if it’s solid, you should be good to go.
