£125 a week in 2000. Upped to about 250 in 2003. Was on about the same in 2005 then the old c**t died so I took all his tools and went to agency work. 350 a week mostly taping. Most I ever made in 1 week was the agency work but I'm a lazy b*****d eh so can't complain. ;D
calm down calm down! ;D
I'll have a hunt for them tonight, drop me your address and I'll get it posted tomorrow if they're still there. 3 house moves in the last year may have lost them heh.
one of the old dears my mum helps out had some work done on her kitchen. just wee walls, coupla patches, coving in one room. I'd have went in at my 160 day rate plus mats on top.
The f**k*r that done the job, I wasn't after it so no loss to me, said..............................65 mats...
you need a certain amount of posts to access the area though do you not Danny? That'd mean that jobs are getting handed round a few select guys that have enough posts to access them no?
I'd have done the same thing. You CANNOT work in extreme low temps. He could get someone else though heh
"Not worry, in Poland I do like this many times." ;D
A. Prefer not to have that.
B. Its a fine finish and you shouldn't be able to see f**k all if you do it properly. Wouldn't have it my house mind you. ;D
why in gods name would you use multi finish/finish for taping? ??? ??? ???
Easy fill/fast set, green or red bags. Bag or tub of joint finish, yellow bag/tub. 2 coats fast set 1 coat finish, sand with 120 when dry. It's no f**k**g hard.
Apologies if this sounds sharp, I'm in a s**t of a mood.
well if I was you I'd have asked him how he set the trim controls in that Lancaster bomber to allow a constant altitude on the bomb run and if he couldn't answer that then I'd have told him full price mucker ;D
http://www.rainbowrender.com/ check them out render. My old man brought their s**t over in 02/03. Bagged undercoat, tubbed finish. Any colour you want, variety of textures. Kicked the arse out of s+c/krend and everything else I used. Undercoat and finish coat put together came out at something...
Sand and cement is cheap and easy to use. With the introduction of portland cement long ago lime wasn't really used after it. Lime allows moisture to be absorbed by the wall and the evaporate rather than holding onto it.
Your call, it's your house. but do you want to f**k around with this...
450 labour only. 600 supply and fix.
you ever get that feeling when you look at a price you just gave and go "f**k me that's a bit much"? ;D Fair price imo though. What was the actual price of the job in the end Church?
fat leaves marks and is full of s**t. it's just crap you're taking of the wall and watering down. if you're filling as you go just use the stuff you have in the bucket, it's all going to go off at the same time anyway. That's how I do it anyway.
Most people, newbies that is, get scared of the...
whats your technique for that then steve? I was always told and shown that rubbing a wet corner digs in and creates problems. Best just to do opposite walls and do it right. That's how I was taught but I'm all for learning new techniques.
hi ksjs,
think steve means when it starts to stiffen up?? Never heard the phrase before though heh
Laying in refers to second coat. Personally I don't f**k around, I whack it on, flatten it out and get another coat on right away but I generally use the same bucket rather than 2 mixes unless...
site job then.
I'm in edinburgh so wouldn't try for more than 3.50 top level on site labour only and that's small site, big site usually about the ball park mac says. Londons usually a bit more eh. If I'm supplying the gear I'd just divide the amount of metres per price of bag (so 10 metres per...
use a pasting brush myself, stiff bristles. Just for cleaning the trowel and on rare rare occassions actually throwing water at the wall. My old man used to go crazy with the brush

Ah bugger, better get some more halogens in here big boy ;D
word of mouth for most of the guys. I'm like you, just started on my own after 10 years.
I just stuck an ad on Yell.com for 600 a year. Most of us are quiet at the mo. The weather/recession/xmas haven't helped. stick at it. Get some agency work if you can and travel. You need to chase the work...
dunno, some guys seem to do well out of it and it seems to be gaining popularity for bathrooms/kitchens and hotels and what not. Never been asked to do it myself but on saying that I'm just branching out into domestic at the mo, most of my years have been scimming/taping and s+c
You do it or...
agree wigan, and if it's an old building you should really stick to proper methods.
where are you anyway Ian? few of the lads on here might be close enough to come and quote you.
well if it's just plaster you want then you'll need to put something on the brick work first. sand and cement then skim or whatever you want. no need to board it.

Never seen it done before, wouldn't ever do it, looks like way to much f**k**g work and I'd get my balls chewed off for using her good pan ;D
Re: help my plastering skills are (german word), why do my celing look wrinkled when painte
pretty common mistake imo. More pressure = flatter and smoother. Incorrect, all it does is f**k up the wall by taking mud off and cutting down into the plaster below as well as creating waves and s**t...
used to having small things in your hand then Rich? ;D ;D
I prefer to try before I buy. If it ain't comfy as soon as I pick it up then there's no way I can work with it all day.
