Ive just got some unifinish this morning reduced to 50p a bag and am thinking of usijng it on some painted artex really shiny silk paint. Do I still need to grit before as it syas ob the bag its fine for silk paint? And if I go over unpainted textured if I PVA beforehand can I use it? Can I throw some bonding in to build it out a bit to get over the artex I went to wickes to get some one caot and they don't do it anymore so can't get hold of it .Thanks

hi sponker , these surfaces need no prep at all in fact they are ideal surfaces for unifinish, if you pre grit or pva any surfaces unifinish is fine , tbh higher dry surfaces could sometimes do with a pre grit when using unifinish.
Hope this helps , there nothing to fear on painted surfaces its the best plaster to use without a doubt.
only other advice id say is if you pre treat before it may extend setting time slightly and in terms of mixing with bonding i wouldn't as this product has polymers and other additives in it which tbh i think the bonding would effect

Thanks lads I appreciate the advice I did think that about the bonding. I got 8 bags but there was half a pallet there and only a week out of date. So it's just the same process it doesnt tear or anything?

If you have a few painted Ceilings or walls to do try 1 bag on the smaller of any of them to see how it feels ,it's same process as using multifinish in terms of put it on quick flatten (straight away imo with Speedskim if you have one) then if it's hanging slightly let it firm up for say 10 mins etc and lay in 2rd coat fresh half bag ideally and flatten n trowel off as normal... Having said that if it firm enough after put on and quick flatten on first coat then just mix up laying in coat straight away and get it on,only once have I been caught out on a painted surface when it dried out quick time just make sure you have gear there ready to lay in fresh if it does, but most of jobs done had plenty of time.

Always try to flatten and get finish as soon as on to be on top, tearing imo only happens when waiting around for gear to pull in and it's to late to get nice finish or if going over say odd chases etc which may have plaster pink instead of paint ,give them a quick tight 3rd bit of plaster to keep them wet to get nice finish

I've always used a tight 3rd coat with uni only because 1st pulls right in anyway .apart from using on artex I've found uni great and at 50 p a bag you should be arrested sponker for robbing of B&q not the other way round!

It was Band Q in wallasey just outside the tunnel I was in wicks in Birkenhead for some one coat but they have stopped doind it. I thouight I would look in Band Q for some universal but they don't stock it but just in the yard was a half pallet of uni. They said they only order in half pallets because it doesn't shift they must have sold two bags out of that one. I have a pic on the phone actually so you could prorbaby count them.

I wouldn't go all the way to Wallasey for them even @ 50p a bag. Wonder if they'll deliver :ROFLMAO:

Minus my eight so probably twenty odd bags ?

Went in mine today and they have put it down to £2 lol they can f**k off now I've seen it for 50p, but to be honest I have four bags some one gave me, I'm gonna use it but I'm gonna use it on board and pre grit :)

It's actually not the best plaster to use without a doubt. You never see multi going for 50p a bag.
Please stop being a dick and bullshitting people

Serious? Were they out of date there as well It seems overpriced even if I like it I wont buy it again at full price.
One week out of date ,glad I logged into forum this afternoon now cheers mate..

No it's not, pva and multi is. if it was it wouldn't be 50p we would all be all over it and multi would be being reduced that's a fact. your the only one on here who likes it but then again you would say that as your on the bg payroll.

this aint no punch and judy show for two out of touch has beens,
its fact ... lets take a look at what it goes over, maybe a nice mashed up kitchen , ohh knees shaking, dry bone backing coat and dry bone plaster, little bit of dirty tile adhesive thrown in for good measure ?
i can here the cry babies already.. that needs floating first.. maybe so but i will stick to my 50p plaster that is shite
