An urban myth I'm afraid. Unless of course all those people with heating oil, farmers and haulage companies with diesel tanks and plant hire companies are breaking the law. ;)

Perfectly legal to store heavy oil and derv in a commercial premises as long as it's stored in approved containers. You can even store it at home. Petrol is a different matter as it gasses.
