Forum refresh???

Myself and @forumdevs are looking at giving this place a new fresh look to try and bring it in in to the future...

Is there anything you guys want or think would work?

I’ve got nothin really useful to offer
1 Inadvertently you have created a vast catalogue of plastering related info that at the current minute 2035 people are dibbing into free, but if you charged entry to it no one would look.
2 Other than that regulars are on here chewing the fat and taking the piss out of each other which is not a good look for the site. But I guess the public don’t really notice it because they are usually only focusing on the specific threads that Google threw at them.
3 Odd person posts a problem and gets more abuse than help, which again is not a good look for the site, but you can only ask for less disrespect shown to noobs to uplift the site going forward but can’t police the place so it may likely continue.

Only useful suggestion:
You could add a donate feature/button or something, how did that work out for Wikipedia and similar sites?

Never want to charge the users for using the forum...

most of that is actually not done in forums that the public can see and even newbies that sign up dont get to see the whole forum...

I am going to put a donate button on... even if it covers a a small portion of the hosting that would help

Donations are fair, just chip in whatever you can afford and hopefully that'd cover some of the costs.
Following the trends is not always a good thing imo, just a bit of a balance, maybe make it look a bit more modern but don't change the format of it... also I reckon bit of spreading the forum a bit more, like maybe make a post on the plasterers talk page on Fb, maybe ask @JessThePlasterer if she knows anyone who could help promote it, she was on the fix radio the other day I believe...

Promoting is not an issue... facebook traffic is always always weak and of teh poorest quality :D

My problem with the whole idea of donations is that it will almost always be us regular users who will be giving out advice and our hard won experience. It will almost certainly be regular users who will feel compelled to donate.
Those that drop in asking for advice will get it for free and probably donate diddly.

agree...

If we can the topics on plastering a bit more then we can get some of the other advertisers back... without pop ups and stuff...

To be fair we could get some off topic topics and target those...

The forum has been a massive part of my life so I need/want it to continue...
