I`m pretty convinced it will have asbestos in it as it`s pretty old in which case it will mean getting someone in to remove the ceiling and I can then just stick a new one up but thought I`d just ask the question in case anyone came up with something I hadn`t thought of....thanks for the replies

No mate staggered the joints. There was only a double door sized part of the original wall that had been plasterboarded and then block wall around that. I plasterboarded so that my board joints didn`t match the existing ones and scrimmed as usual. I can`t believe the new board joints now have...

No mate weber fibreglass mesh usually used in rendering i believe but have seen it recommended for use in skimming really cracked walls

yeah i was planning to do it on my own but was concerned about time and it drying out too quickly while i messed around moving whatever platform i use, i don`t plaster professionally just for myself so don`t have a labourer but might get someone to help. Thanks for the input everyone

Hi, I have to plaster the wall that runs up the side of my stairs and the wall above them (if that makes sense). What do you guys use for access so you can reach the top and that won`t block your way when doing the lower part of the wall?
