Some grossness in this thread, lol :RpS_scared:
Anyways, I'm in touch with a plasterer who seems very professional and is keen & motivated for the job. Fingers crossed I think the search might be over...
wow, so according to you, not only does one have to be a plasterer to be a man, but a quick one!? Some of the plasterers I've come accross are too much of a man :RpS_lol: must be them kebabs
Gentlemen, if you're serious about doing this in August or September then please send me a message. I'll be away from my computer for a few days but will reply to private messages.
And I'm increasing the pay for this job.
Thanks.
beddy I'm around to help out with mixing and cleaning, would consider paying a little bit more but not for 2 people. You afraid of being lonely in Geneva :RpS_crying:
I've phunked up my right hand, my fingers lock together so I can't hold a trowel especially for polishing, otherwise I would've finished the flat by now and had less of a headache. Instead I've been hunting for a plasterer in 3 countries! Lack of availability / skill has been a problem.
I understand your logic Nick, but if money was the issue you could've let me know and it might've worked out. We spoke at length about everything, but you left me with the impression that you were more than keen to do it and yet we didn't hear from you for a few days before you pulled out...
Thanks for the advice. I can't find a local because they don't do flat plastering around here, it's either wallpaper or crepi. The ones that do flat plastering don't do polishing, they say it's the painters job, the decorator usually has to sand the wall down, it's not really worth it. As we...
Another plasterer has left us high and dry... so,
Job still open
Location: very close to Geneva, Switzerland
Walls: cleaned & solid plasterboard, and some smooth previously thinly plastered concrete, cleaned & ready for bonding agent / plastering
Plaster: can supply local Lutece 2000L...
No mate, it's just that I've spoken to several people who seem interested, didn't see the point in contacting more plasterers. I sent you a message anyway.
With regards,
Jonny
BTW looking to hire one person, and so I can mix and clean for whoever gets the job. Not going to be breathing down yer necks, I'm a fairly chilled guy :RpS_thumbup:
Wow, in the UK I think we'd have skim plasterers coming out of our ears for this job... But over here nobody does flat skimming like the UK. They don't know how. It's either machine applied crepi or paper. Some have tried to sell us paper at the same price as some plasterers. Not having that...
All the people I've contacted aren't either a) professional enough (don't answer/call in a timely manner) or b) booked for months from now.
So the job's still open, 110m2 and probably more. Local accommodation costs covered.
Chris W, I don't know what the hell's wrong with you, must be wrong time of the month? Someone lit your tampon fuse or something?
Anyway, where was I... yes, we've got some people lined up to give some quotes, all I wanted to know from "professional" plasterers is: is £25/m2 is a bit steep.
Thanks for the helpful replies.
Job now extended to 110m2 and found some english speaking locals, wish me luck! I'm expecting to pay a little more than the UK :(
The living room and study in our flat located in Ferney-Voltaire in Ain department (close to Geneva) needs to be skim plastered.
Around 50m sq of walls, cleaned with sugar soap, flat, and ready for plastering.
I will supply Lutece 2000L plaster, got more than enough bags! Plasterer needs to...
Thanks for the replies guys.
Just discovered that using a sponge trowel gets very good results. Also I learned that closing the windows (it's about 25oC) really helps with increasing the setting time, can live with it getting quite humid and sweaty. Following a similar method to Chris W's I...
I've just bought a sponge float after reading lots of good stuff on it. Looking forward to giving it a try, especially since the plaster I'm using - Lutece 2000L - goes off pretty quickly before you get a chance to flatten it properly. My weapon so far has been the spray bottle.
are you referring to me...? Why would I ask these questions on a forum if I 'had a clue' in the first place?! I'm renovating our own place, saving a bit of money in the process. The 2 walls I've tackled look pretty good and quite flat after some practice.
I've put up 30m sq. so far and got ok results. One problem I've run into is gritty patches which need to be scrathed off and re-filled. The stuff goes of pretty quick as well. I'm using PVA 5:1 and then 1:1 prior to skimming.
Anyone got any tips on skimming using Lutece 2000L?
Is it practically possible to get a seamless joint by using plaster depth guides to divide large walls for skimming with a trowel?
I need to divide the walls because of a hand tendon injury which means I can't do more than 12m sq. a day. Also, the skim plaster here in France (Lutece 2000L) goes...
This is my first post on this forum :)
Was wondering if this angle bead is suitable for 3-4mm of plaster skimming? Are the wings a little too short?
I'm in France and it's the only type of bead that I can get locally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
