Thanks people, some good advice here, not just for me, but food for thought for others that might be needing to change things up

Arturitus bad in shoulders and lower back, took 30 years to do it though, I had a good run but can't do it forever

Some good comments here, I've got to be honest, I didn't even think of snagging, I like the sound of that but I might be a b*****d as I can't stand sloppy work. I'm not sure I'm up for lying about work history, you always get caught out in the end, look like a right knob then

I was gobsmacked, yes let someone else do all the worrying.

After 30 years on the trowel and declining health I made a decision to look for employment in something a bit easier, I went for an interview for a job banging picture frames together this morning, dead easy job. Well fook me if in the interview I was told because I had worked for myself all my...

    Getting rid of some tools

£150 plus postage, unless of course you would like to pick it up! If you want to pick it up you can have all the 110 gear for free.

    Getting rid of some tools

Alright Boys and girls, it's been a while since I was last on here so I'm not up to date with what's going on. As the title says I am getting rid of some of my tools as I no longer need them, ie rifina mixing drill 110v mm30 with trany and leads, and 2 x14inch nela trowels, 1 is a nela flex...

What trade do you dislike the most.

Any trade that brings tools in the room I’m plastering

    Skywalker stilts

Don’t know the answer but I do know that the last time I used stilts I slipped and done the splits, that must have been 18 years ago, haven’t touched a set since

    Rubble on jobs

My local council are c**ts They charge you £4 per rubble sack and £8 for a rubble sack of plasterboard off cuts. It takes the piss. It’s in the quote as an option, ie, x amount for the disposal of rubbish unless the customer would like to get rid of it themselves

    s**t gear again

That’s just it, it was a bad Artex fan job, deep as fook, it took three bags to cover it, first coat had bonding in it to, it came good in the end, just had to leave it alone, but I was pissed off it had to be hard work, done hundreds in my nearly 30 years now so either I’ve lost my ability to...

    s**t gear again

Everbuild pva, prime 4ish to 1, dried in really fast, then next pva coat was neat as directed on the tub, took a while to go tacky but I pissed about doing other bits so it was completely dry by the time I came back to it, that one poxy ceiling took 5 and a half hours, gear was tearing in the...

    s**t gear again

Driving me off my f**k**g head this finish is, I’ve not had a single decent bag since before Xmas 17 mtr ceiling, fan Artex, 3 f**k**g bags of finish, each coat pulled in well I’m a 40 minute drive from the nearest merchant and I haven’t even got a half bag knocking about in the van to sort this...

    Rolling set

I can’t work out if he is being genuine or if he really does need help
  27. R

    Rolling set

How long you been a plasterer Andy? I honestly can’t be assed to explain a rolling set, I thought you would of known what I was on about in your other thread, my mistake. I’m sure there are probably other threads on here somewhere that you can read through that cover the rolling set technique...

    Slow plaster set down

Try some extra time additive. 4 bags in one mix is flipping hard work mind you. You might find you can do more mixing up smaller amounts and rolling your sets. You said before you was only putting on 3-4 bags a day, you said 30-40 mtrs. You could easy double that by rolling your sets and not do...

    Porous walls

see what the walls are like when the roughcast is off, if its ok then repiont it as mentioned above, if it looks crap then lime render it with nhl 3.5 and a good coarse sand

    Nela 16”ss. V Mt ss

I’ve got a few nela trowels, 12 inch premium, 14 inch premium and a 14 inch nela flex. I personally like the cork handles and blade width on the premiums. I can lay on quicker with the 12 inch than the 14 inch, the 14 inch seems to vibrate a bit, it doesn’t have any affect on finish but I don’t...

    Finishing lime plaster

Depends what type of building I’m working on, sometimes it’s a float finish then sponged off and other times a steel trowel, like I said depends what type of building I’m working on and lime spec.
