where did you buy your mixing drill?

We sell Eibenstock (badged as Alfra) but charge very high prices. There's a reason for that - earlier this month a plasterer rang to say his 'new' Eibenstock had stopped working, and he needed it fixing under warranty pretty damn quick 'cos he was losing a morning's pay. (How much is that -...

TPF in association with GOLD TROWEL?

Punters are not paying you for a nice flat wall or ceiling, they're paying you for your knowledge. If someone can acquire enough 'skill' to float over boards in 3 or 5 days that's up to them...what they cannot do is advise a punter on what will work or what won't when they've had a flood, or...

    remember your first wage packet

I started as an assistant office junior on £60/week gross, £45.45 take home of which £28.00 went on board and lodging, the rest on funding a rubbish Mini to get me the 10 miles to work each day. That was 1982.

    Handles

I'd assumed this was a posting that was 8 weeks late. I've never had anyone ask for a left handed trowel handle - unless they wanted a skirting ladder or tartan paint, too.
  11. C

    Handles

Our range of Kraft trowels can be bought with 'camel back' wooden handles, straight wooden, soft grip or even leather grip. Take a look at Carobyn and choose whichever takes your fancy then call us to get the handle changed. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee they will fit another type of...

    Carobyn twitch test.

The brand is 'Jung Henkelmann' and made in Wuppertal, Germany. Manufacturer of hand tools since 1862. This twitch is a rigid 90 degree - they also offer a 'flappy' internal corner torwel which some refer to as a dry lining internal - the 'wings' are flexible so you push to meet the angle of the...

    new whisk......?

It's the torque (twist power) that mixes, not just the amount of electricity it consumes (wattage). The torque will get you through dry lining compound or hardwall on a slow speed setting, if you are sensible and do a bag at a time, but for finish you need a good whisk speed (>450rpm). That's...

    new whisk......?

If it helps we'll be getting in some more Perles 1300 watt mixers soon. Perles you say? Perles are a Slovenian company that have previously made machines for Collomix and British Gypsum (the RGE160 and S10 yellow mixer). The machines are rugged enough, simple to maintain, come with a NEGATIVE...

    Professional Builder ToolFair 2014

As a previous exhibitor I'd like to encourage as many as possible to attend - last time the show was swamped by electricians... If 'the trade' doesn't support these things they die...and then people complain they can't see the tools...but the suppliers won't put their hands in their pockets...

    New twitch ( corner trowel)....

Follow the link - you'll see the products...there are rigid 90 degree internal/external, and larger 'flappy' dry lining design ones too. To avoid confusion, the price of £3.75 refers to postage and packaging, NOT the trowels...(see website or call 0800 975 4420).

    A guide to using stilts

Ah, that's maybe why he sold them on...the SW2's are difficult to walk on due to the lack of 'parallelogram action' keeping your foot parallel to the floor - they only pivot forwards and then back to upright, holding your ankle rigid. A rigid ankle is not a comfy way to walk, let alone work, and...

Hope you bought DURA-STILTS...and if you did then take a look at the instruction sheets here; http://www.carobyn.co.uk/_uploads/product_manual/ds_in-manual_en.pdf - which you can save, print out, and keep as part of your method statement (always handy if called to site). Some of the...

    New paddle mixer

Perles are still going - they are part of a massive outfit called Hidria and based in Slovenia... They will be available again through Carobyn from late May 2014 - just the one model for now in 110v or 230v and with the larger 160 negative paddle. Power is around 1250watts - good for three bags...

    What stilts?

The thing to watch when arranging a personal import is VAT and duties - any goods over £135 iirc is liable to duty, and anything over £35 liable to VAT...and they also charge these on the cost of delivery too. This may seem reasonable, until someone allocates the wrong duty band/product type...

    New trowel

Carbon steel is softer - easier to make (and keep) an edge on it, but prone to rust if not kept properly. Stainless is tough but low maintenance. About 25 years ago all carving knives were carbon, and they were SHARP. Now its all stainless steel (thanks to the dishwasher) and you need to keep...

    Hello - Richard @ Carobyn

The reason they don't like milk crates is that they are not designed for that use - who gets sued when it collapses? Hello - Richard @ Carobyn

This is where you get to apply your years of learning and graft - the Working at Height Regs are nice and vague on lots of details. They DO NOT ban certain tools nor do they RECOMMEND specific tools. What they say is (in effect) do what you have to do SAFELY and with due consideration for...

    Hello - Richard @ Carobyn

That might work, but I've never seen it done... For 60% - 75% of jobs you're working at 2.4m, which means your stilts will only be 14 - 18" high (35cm - 46cm) and you can - with a little practice - step up onto them from the floor. I've seen ceiling fixers vault onto 40" (1m) stilts as well...
