thanks all, so you just run a bit of skim down the scrim with your trowel? (seen a video he was using another tool) With your corner beads, do you nail them and then a bit of skim or just a bit of skim to hold them? seems pointless nailing it into board as it doesnt really hold

After scrimming joints on sq edge board, do you put a run of skim or jointing mix over them ? if so.. why? Or do you just scrim up then skim the wall?

It's hard to explain, it's not like a full on flimsy board.. it's maybe a few mm when you press hard in a certain area. At the time I thought the other joists would provide enough support, and they actually might but having checked it now I have doubt, hence the thread and hence me sticking a...

I boarded an oddly laid out stud wall, having finished this I noticed in some parts where the boards join, there is a bit of play when pressed as there is no joist behind that part.. it's only slight Will skimming the wall strengthen it or should I take the boards off and add a joist in there...

Yeah, the problem is timing when you're learning makes no sense as you have to wait between coats etc etc but due to being a novice and being so slow, there is no time to wait. Interesting you mention the tapered edge board as I started off buying them on accident, then I switched to straight edge as I thought that was best for plastering. Although now I'm thinking the opposite :RpS_lol: Although, used the same boards on the ceiling and didn't have that problem

I am pretty sure that's what I'm doing wrong, or laying it on thick then flattening too soon and taking it all back off. Will work on it, thanks guys. Also, I just scrim and go I don't put any over the scrim prior to plastering, should I ?

On the stairs end of the landing the ceiling droops down a bit, I'm going to be over-boarding and plastering it, basicallly it's where the huge heavy water tank was in the loft before we had a combi fitted recently.. so I think the weight of it has caused it to droop a bit, the tank is now gone...

I use a pre worn M Town perma, it's not sharp at all and I hear a sharp trowel is better. I tried a sharpening stone but isn't giving good results Any tips/advice/techniques/recommended tools thanks in advance

Did 2 walls today and I must say the mix was much better, near perfect. I think I was over-mixing big time. I was also faffing by first adding water then the plaster bit by bit, today I put the water then chucked nearly all the plaster needed then mixed and it was alot better
