Render timber frame on brick extension.

Hello all. Been a while but thought I'd ask those with far more knowledge of finishing timber frames than me for some advice. Hopefully you can see the picture. Timber frame ontop of a 40 yr old brick extension with an RSJ in the middle. Nice. Both parts are to be rendered as the...

    Pricing by the meter

I see what your saying ray but when I talk about linear metres, I'm talking about reveals, cheaks and boxes etc. anyway, im not even gonna bother with linear meters, not even sure why they're insisting on doing it? They'll be better off just taking a straight m2 rate. Thanks all.
  15. H

    Pricing by the meter

So, as a proportion of a m2 rate, what's a general guide for these linear rates??
  16. H

Cheers bud. Yes, it's only the bigger jobs I'd be looking at the m2 rate... Ta

Can't say I wasn't expecting this kind of response on here, and yes, I'm getting that much work that I'm subbing it out to people who know what they're doing..... My question is, which has been addressed by one sensible member, should I stick with the basic m2 method I use.....or not...

    Pricing by the meter

Hello all, first off, not too concerned about the actual costs here, more interested to know if there's a 'universal' method of pricing up work by the meter. I normally just measure surface area of the room ( LxWxH) and include windows and doors in the meterage rate to make up for reveals/...

Well, I will have the invoice and it was on my credit account, yes. All merchants are the same, just tell em you can buy it for £60 inclusive from jewson and they'll sell their own kin to get under a competitors price!

    wood burners

Just s&c or hardwall it. hardwall is only qualified for c50degC however I've used it in my own house and not had so much as a hairline crack ( do have a good 4 inches air gap all round though) The trick is to leave it to dry naturally for as long as practical before you ramp up the stove/wood...

    Magnectic plaster

No, not had to use any grit paper yet. I suppose by troweling it up your moving the material about so you'd upset the evenness of the magnetic density, just a guess.

    Magnectic plaster

Just done two walls in my house (nursery), having laid a dozen or so bags in the last 6 months or so. Also quoted a builder to skim up a column in a new kitchen before christmas, not sure why his spread won't do it..... ?? People are starting to ask for it, might be the money cow for 2015...

    Bonding

Tillers don't care, as long as it's plumb and flat....they'd tile onto paper mashe if it was flat! All you gonna worry about is that it's not gonna suck the living day lights out of the adhesive.... otherwise their tiles fall off and they blame the plasterer......! So bond if up, close it in and...

Here's the problem. I've just done a room half existing/half board. I used my mt to lay on and the sf to trowel. The half with the board is spot on, the existing has these bloody ridges where the sf floats over. So, it's horses for courses...... The sf seems to cope well when the gear picks...

Cheers for that. When you say 4:1 prime, are you talking sbr:cement as a slurry? That's what I'd probably use if S&C rendering? Any advice on size, standard of mesh?? I know the data sheet will probably indicate this but that don't get my post count up and, nowt like real world advice!!

    Advice on applying krend

Hello all, Been a long time since I done any krend.....and to be honest it was a tiny dwarf wall extension. Other than that and a 2 day course in it a while back, I've not touched it. Anyway, just about to finish a 5 bed house and the guy is now interested in having 2 walls rendered due to...

I've found with the s*p*r*lex that it's too flexible to put over anything other than wet gear.....I only use it now for flattening off the first and second (if wet enough). However, it's very good for this purpose...allows me to flatten off sooner. As you say, if you try doing the first/second...

New plaster coming away - advice sought

This looks like the 'reskim' has been applied on top of fresh plaster of some sort.....not backing plaster, but may be my eyes! Did the plasterer apply a base coat of plaster first? To me, it looks like the skim coat has been applied to a polished finishing plaster? If the plaster was...

Travis can can buy it on spec for you, I'm paying less than £50 a bag. Ask em, they may say they have to buy a pallet.....if they do, tell em to rewind and speak to their BG rep, BG will add it to their regular stock orders in single bags. May take a week to arrive but far cheaper than wickes.
