pva mx sounds a bit weak, try 1 pva/2 water, let first coat soak in then roller 2nd on.depending on how the 2nd coat sucks in maybe put a 3rd on.Or 1 coat of wickes bonding agent, pricey but good stuff

Done a similar job using rend aid with mesh, left for 3 days to set, then 1 coat of ocr.no need to keep it damp that way.

on a big spread I put 1 tea spoon of cream of tartar per 5 litres of water.Its in the supermarket nxt to baking soda..DONT use too much tho, it'll inhibit the reaction so much that the plaster won't set.Its handy if your doing a massive ceiling or just slow/knackered.

theyre tossers for asking that, only ever give a day rate meself, plus travel sometimes as well.

had to rawl plug and screw it in the past,used quick set mortar as well, made sure to rend aid over it tho

Wickes bonding agent, great stuff , I always use it on artex, distemper or gloss/silk painted surfaces.just a shame it comes in a piddly little tub.

would only use a belle mixer on a smaller job, get a machine in then you're bulletproof
