Mate cash is amazing when your 16/17/18 finish on a Friday cash in hand woohoo!

But mate get your name down for self assessment and start paying in, its the best way to be otherwise youl get to 26/27/28 and thinking of buying a house or whatever and they wont know who you are.

I pay everything into my account even cash its just not worth messing about with, it feels good having a wedge in your pocket after doing a job but remember not everyone pays it, some people will think your a donut asking for cash off jobs believe me I had it when I first started doing my own jobs.

Theres nothing wrong with a bit of cash here and there but it will do you a favour to waxk it into your own account

Keep on top your money and it'll look after you.

1st thing u need to do like 2mz Is phone hmrc up and sort ur utr number out then get an accountant..where u going to say uve been since u left school and uve never signed on? There wil want to know wat uve been doing

So basically all I need is a decent accountant?

If you get a decent one at the start, then take his/her advice you'll be set right at the beginning. As you go on it will make the whole deal much easier.

Not necessarily, you can do your returns and books on your own if you got a bit of brain, I got none so I got an accountant, it's probably worth it in the long run

Zolco doing ur own books is a false economy..a accountant knows alot more than we do knw matter how brainy we are plus his charge comes off ur gross earnings plus he will get u more bk than ourselfs wud..makes me chuckle wen people say I do mine fck paying a accountant etc

I agree with you, but I do know a few who does their own books, and they do alright, but having said that I sleep much better having one

The main reason to use an accountant is that it's free as it's a 100% deductable professional service.

Secondary reasons are that it'll save you time, avoid errors, make sure you get all your entitlements and provide a source for any financial references you need (mortgage, loan etc.)

I do my own books. If you're small fry (Like I am) an accountant won't save you much. Keep all your work related receipts. You can claim a percentage of your mobile phone and your utility bills. Be honest. You don't want to feck about with the taxman.

Same as me mate, if I was turning over more than I could handle id have someone balancing my books for me but I don't earn enough to account for one, just keep on top of everything as you say all receipts and a note of what's come out and gone in is enough

Ye but a accountant will get u money back! How much did u get bk self assessment last year? Wen I was self employed 3 year ago my accountant got me bk £2500-£3000 back every year and he cost £220

can't beat an accountant he got me 3 bags back this year happy with that
Know matter how big/small u are u shud have a accountant..dsnt matter if u don't earn much or u keep on top of things urself the true fact is he will get u more bk than wat u get bk urself..

Thing is I bet any1 who does there own accounts barely gets £1000 bk and uve got all ur fcking about doing it..or get an accountant pay him £250 tops If ur 1 msn band self employed and he will deduct that from ur gross then get u £3000 back..its a no brainer!
