Been asked to take a look at a fireplace. They are having a new fireplace fitted and they need the back and sides of it rendered as the bricks are very old. Because this is a fire and obviously heat will generate. What is the correct method to do this job and what materials....

Thanks

i must have posted on this topic at least twice before recently, have a look through previous posts.stick some lime in your mixes etc or use victas etc
this topics been done to death. some lazy feckers about.

You can sand and cement render it, no problem . You be amazed how much heat it will take also there is special cements for this kind of work.

I had a look at that victas, when its said to put lime in the mix, do they mean put say for example its a 5-1 mix.. so adding the lime 5-1-1 etc

I've never done a fireplace before so I have never really thought of what you use, but apart from Hydrated lime's common uses, I can only think it re***ds heat as limestone was used in Kilns years ago but apart from that ...educate me please Henry?
