Rendering a coat on old stone walls for Dot 'n' Dab

Hello,

I have a house built with hard pennant stone (Victorian), I've hacked off all of the black lime mortar
and my next move is to render over once or twice before Dot 'n' Dabbing on insulated plasterboard
which I've not done before so I may decide to pay someone else to do it.

Anyway, either way my question is, should I add waterproofer to the S/C mix for the render or
should this be left out?
My worry is that being proofed, the board adhesive won't 'bite' into the render and will likely sit on top
leaving the wall more susceptible to failing in the future.

To proof or not to proof that is the question.

NB. the stone walls are not damp.
