Another plastering firm goes to the wall.

Prob not getting paid from main contractors who are acting like ***** in this recession plus going in a unsustainable rates. Shame whats happening to the plastering industry

not good...

cash flow is screwing everything at the moment no body is paying because nobody is paying....

one of the better firms, worked for them for 12 months , paid really well pre 2008. Shame to see them go .main contractors screwing subbies again DSDAVE

bad cashflow is like a cancer to a business. we regularly turn decent size projects away due to payment terms.
recently turned a £80,000 project down because they wanted 60 days payment and a 5% retention. like im going to stump up 80 grand of my money to fund a project when they could go bust in that time frame. but a firm took it on, nuts.

I worked for these since 2006, on and off.

They actually gave me my first break when I was 19-20, sent me to Grimsby roughing for £7 m2. Learnt a lot from this company and some good lads worked for them some good managers as well.

Prices were a little bit better than the average round here, they did have jobs in notts, Liverpool and hull and I was offered something in doncaster in may, but I was ok at the time.

Very fair company and quite sad to see them go, lot of lads round here worked for them.

Hopefully the main man can sort his problems out and come back with another company, also remember speaking to 1 of gaffers and he was sayin that there profit margins were very low. This was last August.

I would imagine they are on the case as we speak...... Undercover,,,,, s.a.s. Style! Stealth and survailance!:RpS_thumbsup:

were in yorkshire are you mac plastering, am not if that firm had a office in grimsby as well.

rapide

Ahhh the bottomless loony well, throw another in. It'll never fill, but we wont run out of loonys to throw in either.

worked for rapide on a big uni halls of residents job, the worst contractor ive ever worked for you had to steal and hide multi finish and walk three flights of stairs to get it half the time because there labourers were usless they were paying £2.00 a meter/s and the boarders who were also doing the metal stud were on less than that, spoke to one boarder who said he was paying the rent and thats it. and some agency guy who didnt know what he was doing tryed accusing me of stealing is bucket or something and i can with in an inch of nailing him to the wall lol.

you can check out the finances of any british ltd. company. for free , all you have to do is go on to the duedil website. register with you email address, and if you can see any red flags near the companys name, they are a high risk so stay away. this web page is always worth a look. see how your competition is getting along!

Where was that job jim?

It depends on who's job you were on, I wouldn't work on a few Foremans jobs because they were bent to fcuk.

I heard that the large areas of skimming were being sold to the gangs of spreads, foreman wanted £100.00 backhander and you'd get the corridors and big runs. That certain foreman I wouldn't work on his job, but the majority were sound.

Believe it or not its not just the recession..

The fella who traine me up had a plastering company and was getting loads of contracts off the big house builders (Barrets) it was invoice 1 month get paid the next, great fine, until they decide to not pay for 6 months!! Which he had 20 odd lads that he was paying, can only last so long... He folded the company before it got in to dept this was 2000-2002! Boom time.

he later went on Trevor McDonald and went undercover for a couple of months on site showing bad marksmanship, inadequacy's etc. when it got aired they lost 22mill in stocks apparently.

so yes the recession defo plays its part but its the sharks that do the most damage!!
