Need some advice on this as I'm not too sure how to go about it

Guys having a woodburner install and wants the inside of the fireplace plastering

Woodburner is 4.5 Kw

the clearance all around the burner in 300mm

I'm sure a Finishing plaster will crack

So I'm thinking a Sand and Cement.......5-1 scratch 6-1 finishing coat

Any thoughts people ?

You will need to use high allumina cement as opc will crack. hac is what they use in blast furnaces and pizza ovens or you can use vitcas that is a pre bagged mix you can rub the sand and cement then trowel it up for a smooth finish

Thanks for the info........logburner company have said Its Ok to plasterboard and skim.......I'm not convinced.....
End of the day if it cracks the customer needs to take it up with the company ......

Ive got a log burner with 200mm clearance, it was done with MP and has a been used for four winters and not a problem, why would you use high alumina its a woodburner not a furnace Ffs.

I plastered a fireplace last week for someone, did it in sand cement with lime. The client's sister had the same done last year with board and skim. She said it had cracked at the back. I'm pretty confident that won't happen with sand cement.

If you buy any fire resistant render, plaster or plasterboard they will all contain high allumina cement it can resist temperatures of blast furnaces but dont mean thats all its used for

I did one in sand cement last year, and it cracked, but only one crack not to bad, nothing a bit of easy fill wont sort, think that was down to the builder installing and using the wood burner pretty much the next day!
