Believe it I have the Bill of qs in front of me.

You sure they dont mean the spay finish and they have made a mistake? Its the only one coat system that is to spec. Saying that i know we can get a good finish 1 coat with board finish and sponges

Definitely They have been spec-ing one coat board finish for a good few years now especially on social housing and low end developments
However the standard of board work is very good

Its posible but its not something i would boast about lol

I was not boasting at all just reasuring Jim that it will look ok, which he already know as its a system he has had to use before.

Its not to spec and its not something any of us like to do but when the men at the top of the chain are pushing the "i want it cheap" button, then it something that has to be done.

Hopefully in the future these architects and QS will see the advantages of the spary finish system and will make the right decision to use it as it gives them everything they want but is to BG spec.

In the mean time we will just advise that its better but im not going to turn down work.

On the last half decent job I was on the finishing foreman said to me this is some of the best work he's seen, everyone on site was one coating and one of the gangs was s**t hot the best work I've seen in my life and it wasn't us lol

at the end of the day its only skimming ffs how hard can it be use 3 buckets a hit which i think is comfortable 3 times a day voila youve earnt your money even at 2.50

yer but you could do more with a machine plus it does outside work, liquid screeds, sprays bond it ect.

and most importantly you look cool as **** :RpS_thumbup:

you cannot do more with the machine it only runs at a certain speed ritmo,s are slow thats why they can spray skim

Very anti-ritmo skimming then?

I just cant see how it can be done quicker by hand you must be like Speedy Gonzales

i saw it when it first came out at the building research institute at garston near watford and it was knauf themselves doing it for p3 projection plastering it was raining finish they might have refined it by now but it aint that quick as you said you are hoping to do 200m2 with 3 spreads and a man spraying a day then 260 once you got it down to a fine art easily acheivable by hand with the same amount of men your just making the labs job easier

thats the conclusion ive come to, i dont see how it pays especially on piss poor rates.

i would use one if there are two of you takes the donkey work out of knocking up and also for thin coat top coats

There will only ever be 3 men at most in a machine team. Sometimes one of the plasterers may be doing the job a labourer could do. If that happens it will be my dad at 56 he needs looking out for after all the hard graft he has done and me a my brother will lose out a bit.

I guess we will see if it works out will be fun anyway

Gary I'll be honest I'm coming at this machine lark from a different angle to Steve, even after laying out the many thousands of pounds on the set up I'm going to be perfectly happy if the machine just pays for itself as long as it takes some of the graft away from my poor ageing body.

My body is foolked from throwing on 100's of thousands of m2 in the 80's and 90's. Machines are not faster in my opinion but I have to say they make it a lot easier :RpS_thumbup:

Thats exactly why we invested to try and keep my dad in the game longer. However when he buggers of to spain for 4 months in the year like he is planning then me and my bro are planning to TRY and prove this system can work. There are so few people setup to spray skim and do it day in day out that at the moment no-one really knows. However them Germans and clever efficent people and im sure they would not be wasting time and money on a setup that dont work.

We are just test rats now

i have done a lot on machine work and it dose save a lot off hard work puting on but u still can only put on what spread can finish and lets face it thats were the hard work is am i right and the never tell u about the breakdowns or new parts or blockeages and yes machines dont last forever the have tryed eveything to make plastering easyer but u still have to get the trowel out at the end off the day like it or lump it and the guy with the hank and trowel will make as much as the guy hauling around thousands of pounds worth off kit just to put the s**t on and thats the easy part its the finishing that makes ur bones ache

I thought it was too passes who told you it's one coat and is the only plaster designed for one coat

Call me a cnt but the people who invented machines, Germans whatever did it not do it for more output or to earn more money but to take the graft out of the job.
