Is there something better to use than traditional mix on parapit walls? Thats more resistant to cracking.

Maybe OCR or something?

Parapet walls dont have a lot of weight on them its only the wall same as garden walls so they suffer more from the elements parapets more dont know the the best gear but someone will.

Maybe thin coat with acrylic? That should take some battering from the weather. Is there any point in doing them in lime? the mortar is lime.

There are some lightweight renders out there, ( bulked out with poly balls )
Mesh in first pass then rub up the second coat as normal, can paint it or use an acrylic/silicone grade thin coat

First the pointing goes on them Spunky and water gets in the joints especialy with lime morter joints and over the course of time with freezing which causes expansion the walls start to move and the joints open up allowing more deteriation through weathering this does not happen on house walls as the weight of the roof prevents the joints from opening up also parapet walls suffer more as often or not remedial work is never done untill its to late because of where they are no one takes any notice of them.

Hi m8, why do you suggest using insulated render?

It's what we used to use on the outside of old out buildings and walls in Germany , it goes on up to 40mm + thick and is quite forgiving , and it's not realy an insulated render imo
