Painting issue

Hey everyone long time plasterer having issue with very old school painter now the photo I put up correct me if I’m wrong firstly yes the colour of paint is going to show patch work but I’m more so asking that no matter what happens here the old surface is lightly textured ever so slightly and my patch is naturally smooth anyone with any knowledge able to help me with a idea on how to get this kind of texture so I could get him a roller to let him paint this surface. He is convinced that I cannot sand properly it wouldn’t matter how much I sanded thanks heaps

If he's that bothered orbital sand the whole wall. Or use a giraffe sander.

Why would you make it all s**t?

Anyways two or three coats of neat high quality (high solids) paint in quick succession will create that s**t stipple effect - if that's what's needed.

Yeah look to be honest his old and I have been more then happy so far this is nearly 200 years old the property and I sand the oil base off the cornice ready for him do all plaster work obviously patch cornice patch skirting patch doorways I move the scaffold s for him if I’m around but he won’t tell me when his undercoated so I watch just makes my job easier and will patch he will get upset it’s just so the client has a good finish and waits until the end and says that’s my bad work when over troweld 80 percent of walls no issue but just confirming because I know that hallway must of been switched to the light texture as it hides patch work it’s what it’s meant for but just gaining some knowledge as normally I believe texture you could almost get away sanding the lip off and texturing it
