He just said he used wood screws an went into laths .lot older then me so who my to say but Thought that was bit ropey . Is it just me thimking that ,

screwing into a 5mm lath lol. I only do that on the perimeter if there are no joists just to take the bounce out and even then I gripfill the board too

Your right it's ropey unless as beddy says it's the last few along an edge to take the bounce out

We overboard quite a few lath and plaster ceilings and it probably takes 5-10 minutes to mark the joists and ping a chalk line across. Each to their own I suppose

He must be crackers , or not arsed one way or the other . Always got to find the joists and board to them . Asking for cracks least worst a board dropping down

I worked with a plasterer that did this told him it wasn't safe and bad practice but he wasn't bothered. Never worked with him again

I went to price a job where half a lath and plaster ceiling had been taking down and boarded by a joiner and on the other half he had screwed drywalls through the plaster into the lath to pull the old plaster back into place. Customer couldn't understand why I wouldn't skim it.

Yup same way I do it... its so easy to do.... unless the joists are pissed...

I've got one to do Monday. customers are an old couple so they had a list of questions to ask. One of them being how do you locate the joists? I said I've got the latest joist finding technology. 'oh brilliant' he said, 'how does that work then?' I said we smash holes in the ceiling with a hammer until we find a joist and mark it on the wall with a pencil.
