How does a 12mm notched trowel give you a base coat of depth of 6mm ?

Does a 12mm notch not give you a 12mm depth ?

It would give you 12 mm if you trowel ed at 90 degrees to the wall. I suppose the thickness depends what angle you spread at.

Because once you notch it then trowel your mesh in it knocks it back down and as said you won't lay it on at 90 degrees either

You need to keep the angle the same all over the wall. 12mm will give about 6mm trowelled on. Then lightly bed your mesh in then spat it flat it will go down to 4mm. Leave to pick up firm or set then a light 2mm skim over.

Get your boards rasped flat as you can and you will have a flat thin coat.

I use a serrated Swiss trowel.

Cheers. It's was messing with me heed thinking how can using a 12 mm notch to get 6mm depth

i use a 6mm notch spat. once spat it is a nice level against my 6mm beads.

cant see how a 12mm notch is good enough as youll have 12mm hap between each notch
