I need some help and advice on this. I have skimmed all manner of surface in one room and I have noticed flakes coming away from the wall. There are about a dozen in total on the ceiling and all walls. Behind the flakes are these little white dots (see pics). What is it???

Someone put the same thing up a couple of weeks back. Must be some type of material in the powdered finish that isn't mixed properly prior to it being bagged or maybe some type of contaminant from your mixing drill ie dab addy etc

I noticed the exaxt same thing on one of my jobs. I noticed it on two walls a week after skimming them. All walls we're done with the same batch I think but only two noticeably popped in that way. I thought maybe it was some sort of seed or blossom blowing into my gauging water that I'd left outside for that morning.

I've had this too. About 3 weeks back on one of my jobs, about 3 spots over the whole ceiling. Can't be pva for me as it happened on board! Not over screws either. Did wonder what it might be too.

I keep the paddle pretty clean to be honest and I've since used the same tools (mixer, bucket, trowels) on another wall in the same room and no problems.

I'm 95% it's a dodgy batch (I used a couple of bags) but I'm just interested if anyone knows what the little white bits are that seems to kick the gear of in little flakes.

Nope, can rule that one out. The only bucket that left my room was a builders bucket across the landing to a bath hose

Yep I agree. I meant other than a dodgy batch that it might be seeds or something. But it's always been favourite that it's a dodgy batch.

I'm certain.

I can't stand looking at those photos the first couple made me feel sick like those pictures on fag packets eurggh

Why would there be polystyrene balls lol, also @grahambarthel why start the thread with "dodgy batch" ? It's obviously got bugger all to do with the plaster. I'm guessing you hadn't finished troweling up the wall yet ?

I started the thread "dodgy batch?" because I could think of no other reason for this to happen other than a dodgy batch. The question mark at the end is meant to imply "or is it"

It was all flattened as per norm. The ceiling was boarded so no PVA.

I'm by no way as experienced as a lot of people on here, so I was hoping someone would have come across it or heard of it.

The polystyrene balls was a good one :)

I noticed whilst using unifinish last year the odd small white particle in amongst the powder which i assumed was the bonding agent.
I had no issues though but hope you get it sorted as its gutting when your hard work might be ruined.
