Distemper or not?

Distemper or not?

I recently stripped woodchip wallpaper and skimmed this room. I have now started looking into how to plaster over artex however im very unsure about whether this wall has distemper on it or not? Or anything else that may cause a problem like limewash? When I look online it says the house was built 1950-60s. The artex does contain asbestos so if it is distemper it seems like overboarding is the only option. But id much rather just plaster over. Any clues? Any info on this would be very appreciated.

No

Looks like seraphite then painted.

Distemper (when you can see it) looks like talcum powder

Its usually covered over with paint or artex. Which THEN becomes a problem for the plasterer.

You can skim over the artex, but to be honest you may as well pop that coving off and board it as that baseline of the cove looks blown anyway.

Thanks! And seraphite with artex over it is completely fine to plaster over as its just what they used before gypsum?

This room I've finished plastering and annoyingly left the coving in cause it was my first time. The other rooms I want to plaster the ceiling first but I want to make sure it doesnt have distemper beneath the artex. Not sure how to check? Any tips?

Yes

And

Scrape test, undo light and check or go to the corner of the room and check.
