don't do enough of it to comment but when called for short 4x2 and if needed a rubber mallet and check with 6ft level

Use feather edge to tap. You can see if it’s straight at the same time. Tap all boards then go over with level and adjust if needed

If you need to belt boards you're making hard work of it, little nudge here and there is easy enough.

Sparks and plumbers are getting lazier though and barely anything is sunk in now. I have a nightmare sometimes. The boards need a damn good beating

I’ve always used feather edges and a scrap bit of timber but been using a nice true bit of aluminium with a nice bit of weight to it and liking it. It’s also thicker than the feather edge which I like.

We've got some narrow aluminium rules that are light as f**k. I foamed one end then once it had set I filled the rule with dry sand and foamed the other end. Nice rule now.
