What is the cause of white fluff growing from a wall the house is empty and has had no heating on for months Iv never came across this before any one seen it .

It is efflorescence caused by hydroscopic salts..

The walls getting or has been getting wet from somewhere.

Check the window is sealed properly, gutters, down pipes are all good blah blah blah

you will need to hack it off n spray anti sulphate on before u float with sand cement with damp proof addy, then skim

The OP needs to sort the point of entry for the damp before worrying about plastering.

Its efflorescence mate, i wouldn't hack it off to soon, itll wipe off then come back, wipe it off a few times and it will stop coming, the stain will need stain blocking though.
