I have just been offered roughly 2000m2 of COB wall to render, I have heard many different things being called cob before so to clarify this is horse s**t,straw and mud compressed into blocks.

What would be recommended to carry out the job ???

I want to spray this job.

Thanks
Richard

Dear Plasterjfe,

Please refrain from hi-jacking my thread and leaving your "comments" , they are both useless and complete b*ll***s.

Typical

And I just rang a very knowledgeable guy on your behalf to see if I could point you in the right direction too

Dear Richard,

As a fellow plasterer I'm sure one Has had the odd moment where one has either miscalculated or simply forgot to throw that extra sack off plaster on the old van
Must say do hope it doesn't happen to you on this job old chap one has visions of you're goodself and ones labour force sitting over ones hopper trying to squeeze one out for that last square metre

Good luck old chap

He couldnt help mate cos the guy used a manual mix and pumped it. it was onto straw bails but coz he pumped it I thought he might have used a specialist lime product but it turns out he just gauged it up and put it through pump and says to go the St Astier and look their as the lads say on the other posts above.

seems a bugger tho because waiting for lime to carbonate can be a drawn out ball ache.

just use a 3 coat nhl 3.5 mix
splatter dash first rough coat making sure cob is damp leave 7 - 10 days misting it 3 - 4 times a day if possible or protect with mortar fleece
float second coat by hand 10mm onto damp first coat, when taking up float with wooden or plastic trowel and scratch it well... look after this on a daily basis to rub in any cracks that will form... keep misting it 3 - 4 times a day or protect with mortar fleece
top coat onto damp 2nd coat 3-5mm thick rub up with wooden or plastic float or dry sponge... protect as above and mist spray it

you can spray nhl 3.5 through a splatter gun for first coat but i wouldnt reccomend it for 2nd and 3rd coats... also which ever lime product you use will take time to carbonate between coats and still needs looking after... anyway good luck with the job

I spoke to some guy based outside of exeter ... back to earth i think he was called. He stocks a hydrolic lime product that pretty much performs the same as any mono. He said spray it and embed mesh then top it and rub it back also available in lots of different colours !!!!!!!!!?????????
