    plasterers eye

twice ive ad to go to hospital. If its not rinsed out quick enough, the lime will burn through the protective membrane of the eye. this membrane will heal, but in the meantime, the eye is open to the risk of infection. If the eye is still irritable next day, worth checking out

    second coat

I always usta get the first coat as flat as possible when laying on. This is how i had been taught. Now i fire on the first coat, don't worry about it being neat( to a certain extent),then go back and quickly flatten it before second coat. Trust me, much easier, quicker and better finish. Anyone...

I usually remove furniture, carpets and floorboards from the floor above appropriate ceiling. Couple of small pilot holes drilled from above, replace carpets and furnishing. No mess. Job done.

    wet angles

A pain, but sometimes youv'e got to do em. Question is, When using an angle trowel. Do you use the angle trowel simply to flatten the plaster? Or to both flatten and APPLY the plaster? Iv'e seen good plasterers do both. Personally, I apply plaster with normal trowel and only use angle trowel...

    adjusting your stilts

just how accurate is it though?
  15. G

    glue gun

epoxy resin is great for beading up. It goes off quick enough for your trowel not to disturb bead when plastering. Skim or float. Plaster of paris also does the trick

    health and safety loopholes

On a job at mo. No vests or shorts allowed. Just throw a t-shirt over your vest and wear some light jogging bottoms over your shorts. Ha, Ha. If they only knew

    adjusting your stilts

Alternatively, you could record distance the from floor to ceiling, subtract your own height and set your stilts at a measurement that accounts for the distance between the crown of your head and the soffit height. This always works for me.

    top tip

We'd have to get over the "reflective hazard" issue in order to prepare a risk assesment.

health and safety wont allow miner's hats on site anymore. You might get away with it on smaller sites.

    top tip

Always bring some candles and a box of matches with you if working on a site with no natural light. This way, you will never be caught out again whilst skimming in the event of a power cut.

    0ne coat.

Are there times when one coat skimmin may be justified, or is it bad news full stop?

Initially i was blaming the pva but then i went over some pb and the same thing happened. All of a sudden the problem just disappeared. It was an absolute nightmare...
