I did a job a while ago and went to travis as was close to the job. Think I got 6 multi, 6, 3m corner beads, a roll of scrim and some plasterboard nails. Came to just under 80 squid :O If I had gon to B&Q it probably would of been under 50!
I did a job for a mate. He described it as a large shed at his old man's. I said, will I need my stilts as said to him its easier. He said, "No, your be fine off a hop up, plus we've got some ladders etc here."
Turned up and it was a chalet type building, 30m2 slanted ceiling, 3m on higher side...
Thanks for all your replies. Looked at there website. Looks like a good day out and 70quid seems good value. Down in West Devon so may even take the Mrs and make a weekend of it!
Posted last week thinking about branching out on my own. Have been thinking about things that would make me stand out in my area ( Isle of Wight ).
One idea was getting into Lime work as there are alot of older buildings on the Island and I dont see any other spreads advertising this. I know...
Seems the same in many trades, Some people snowed under and some with nothing. There seems to be work out there. Fingers crossed for the people who are quiet ( including me) and good on, the ones who are busy.
Agree with above... Too many people want a top quality job for peanuts. Developers always wanting more and more metrerage a day but a top finish to go along with it. I've always stuck to my guns and gone for quality.
Well thats just confirmed what I was thinking. Much prefer the variety and like some of you said, it's good to have a rest from plastering from time to time. Hard on the body!
Cheers for the replies guys. Good advice. Was looking into different careers as have been quiet. But hard to get out the industry at 27. Would mean going back to college if I wanted to earn any money in the future and then I'm still not gauranteed a job afterward. Specially if remains the same...
Reason why i'm asking is at the moment i am working for my girlfriends old man. I have been thinking about starting up on my own as would like to build up my own clientele. As have been working for him for around 2 years so have lost contact with anyone I used to do work for. (Plus I can run...
Hi all.
Thinking about getting back into building/plastering.
Started about 8 years ago with an apprenticeship, did the first year and was doing well, but wasn't getting enough experience at work as the boss was getting me to mow his lawn etc. So CITB agent advised me to find someone else to...
If your fixing plasterboard to stud work, the best way is to first fix sheets of ply along the walls that are going to be taking the cupboards. then board over with the plasterboard. This will make it easier as your have a good fixing anywhere on those walls. If dot and dabbing, look at the...
Just looked at a rendering job. Some big areas (well for me) The question i've got is there are lots of windows to bead up and they all have thermalite blocks as the window seals, well they've been bedded on there sides on and angle. The builder I'l be quoting to said about beading them up and...
Cheers grandwizard, I'l have a look now at that freeflow additive! Plasterjfe.. you know where i could get in contact with an accessor? Thanks for all the replies fellas!
Cheers guys. Pretty much what i thought. I'm confident at the job and always do a good job. Would like to get a bit more experianced with the external side as seem to mostly do internal works. Been getting in with a few companies lately but need my cscs card which got me worried. I'm fairly...
Hi all. I've been plastering for probably over 5 years, Did just over a year of an apprenticeship but the builder i was with was not giving me the variaty needed for my portfolio and was getting me to do matainence work on his properties. So my citb officer sugested i find someelse to take me on...
Thanks for the reply lucius. Well hadn't actually looked at the job till today. Went on what my friend had said the job was. To be honent it's an L shaped wall with one end curving round to some steps. Part of the stone work is shot to bits. Where a lot of the stone has eroded back about 4/5...
Hey got a retaining stone wall to render. About 4 metres high by about 6 metres. Was going to power wash it and go over with a wire brush to get all the loose off. Will need a dubbing out coat prior to the scratch. My question is, if i add a waterproofer plasterciser to the scratch will this...
Cheers for the info warriorupnorth :)
Think I'l get the details of where my friend got it from and give them a call. Thanks for the info though. Would like to get into this side of plastering. Did an apprenticeship a while back but apart from that I've worked on my own alot so just do the basic...
Its defo not this product :) it's just a plain white bag, with the colour printed on the side and a label on the top of the bag in german. As i've never used the bagged renders before was wondering if its the same method as sand cement, just maybe the keying up on base coat is done differently...
For a definitive answer u wanna ask Kirk and no stone will be
left unturned ;D
:D lol. Lets hope he see's this then.
Got a feeling its similar to K rend. Does anyone know a link to the process of this? ( how many coats, how thick a coat, how long in between etc. floating/finishing.
Cheers
Hi, i'm new on here, been plastering for about 5 years now, but haven't used any of the newer render products, done a fair bit of sand, cement work. A friend of mine has got a load of bagged render for cheap to use on the back part of his house, an old brick extension that needs tidying up...
