Update - work around York to Leeds

Point taken steve, I've removed the cash reference - it was never intended to indicate anything underhand - only that you will be paid cash in exchange for an invoice and it is then your own responsibility to declare and pay your taxes (and my responsibility to declare and pay my taxes). As...

Hi, I manage quite a few plastering contracts and am looking to expand my list of subcontractors in the area - good rates paid. If you are local to Leeds/York or would travel please PM me with your details - I have work waiting. The quality of your work must be perfect, fast and clean. These are...

No, but the night shift have been known to 'log one in' on the laminated boards quite often

You must be in NW catchment area - it's not bad stuff coming out of Kirkby Thore, but round here it's diabolical at the mo. If it's not damp then it's overcooked and the paper's peeling off!!

BG were waaaayyy behind schedule on the Barrow on Soar upgrade - hence the delay and lack of plaster, BG saw it coming many months before and might have been nice to let the industry know?? Does anyone think Knauf boards are better than BG?

I picked this up on Rated (swear word) and for a while was quite interested as I thought it must have been listed for the wrong trade - it was appealing for a builder. As far as I can make out from the very sketchy description it's just a board out and skim garage (done similar recently - boxing...

    Tri Sodium Citrate

Has anyone used Tri Sodium Citrate additive as a retarder to hold the set back? I noticed on a previous post, loads of other potions and concoctions to hold the set back but don't recall this one mentioned?? Would be grateful to hear of anyones experiences with it. Cheers ???

    Getting Work The Guide

One thing to note on the website side of things, I'd advise that your company name is reflective of the area you work and the type of work you do. No-one is going to punch into a google search 'bob smith plastering'. They will however search for a 'plasterer' in 'bolton' and as I imagine, if...

Yeah, drywall in fire rated areas. Defo less wasteage is best at £40 a board!! :o

That's the stuff, no paper, the plaster is bled through a glassfibre mesh and set as a finished article

    advice needed

I've done a wood burner before and just lined the fireplace with Glasroc F, it's a 'ready skimmed' glass fibre & gypsum board so just bung the boards on with some adhesive and away you go. Expensive boards though!!

    Dodgy multifinish

Make a claim from BG. Take a sample of the faulty product back to your merchant and ask for the BG rep to be called in. Explain that you have had to spend X£'s in time and labour and the fault is BG's because of defective material. It's within the BG procedure to pay out small claims for these...

Defo blame BG, use the small claims procedure to claim your £200 re-imbursement for lost time etc. Please PM me for more details.

Top vehicle! I've got a Hiace myself and it never skips a beat. The only downpoint is that you won't get an 8x4 in there without chopping the corner off!!

There's no doubt that this website is making a mockery of the trade. myhammer is 10X WORSE THOUGH!!

    Hi

Luck more than good judgement in all honesty. I'd like to think now that I know more about BG plasterboards than most of the directors!! (not 1 director in BG has ever made a sheet of 8x4 or a bag of dust!!!)

    Moisture resistant plasterboard

Hi there, firstly I'd say that it's not advisable to skim this type of board at all, it's a tilebacker or semi exposed soffit board. Neither of which I would skim and once you do you lose your claim from BG should anything go awry. If it's in a situation that needs a skim, then it's the probably...

    Hi

Different type of paper (cheap, poor and lower grammage brown). Bottom paper will be about 170gsm whereas top paper is about 190gsm and top paper has various additives included to aid such as bond. (although the industry is always pushing to lower costs by reducing grammage of both faces even...

Full time plasterer now. Was boardplant Quality manager for 10 years before getting a bit disheartened and going self employed. Will happily answer any board related questions but never worked on the plasters side.
  37. E

    Hi

Sorry I was boardplant not plasters - but still I'd personally only ever 2 coat for the best finish.
