I've done a wood burner before and just lined the fireplace with Glasroc F, it's a 'ready skimmed' glass fibre & gypsum board so just bung the boards on with some adhesive and away you go. Expensive boards though!!

Make a claim from BG. Take a sample of the faulty product back to your merchant and ask for the BG rep to be called in. Explain that you have had to spend X£'s in time and labour and the fault is BG's because of defective material. It's within the BG procedure to pay out small claims for these...

Full time plasterer now. Was boardplant Quality manager for 10 years before getting a bit disheartened and going self employed. Will happily answer any board related questions but never worked on the plasters side.

Sorry I was boardplant not plasters - but still I'd personally only ever 2 coat for the best finish.
