Yeah was a while ago but have been working as a welder for the last 20 years and the hourly rate is just dog s**t. Wtf was I thinking?
Anyway am actually a qualified plasterer so fook it. Time to apply for cscs and see what’s changed
Just what says in the title. Am trying to get back into it after being away from the game for a few years. Also wondering if am a bit too old to pick up the tools again at 47 . f**k it though gotta take a chance. Hi all btw
Hi all. I completed my City & Guilds apprenticeship many moons ago but what with it being an ever changing world I honestly aint got a clue where I stand when it comes to applying for a C.S.C.S card?
Searching online it says I need to have NVQ's? I'm assuming this is an updated version of City...
Shame its come to this but id rather work than sit on my arse all day.
2 year city & guilds qualified. Hardworking and can either help spread or mix and pick up some tips?
As it says in the header any crews in Northwest looking to save a few quid on wages let me know.
Reduced hourly rate for me in return for any tips and advice from you
I learn you save. Simple
Fylde, Preston area
Eh good luck to ya pal. Hope the thread doesn't put you off I just wish I was in same boat. But as said by other members earlier in the thread without money for proper advertising I'm gonna find it very hard to make a go of it.
Field of dreams this isn't. What did I expect? To wake up one...
No it doesn't. That's the whole point ya goon
That's the problem. For the 1st time in my life I'm enjoying my job. I always thought that when heard someone say "I love my job" (usually women) that they were talking b*ll***s. I wouldn't go so far as love but it defo has job satisfaction
Cheers for advice Mac. Would use it but for not having a pot to piss in.
Tried searching for agency work but found f**k all.
You'd think with the amount of plasterers on the fylde coast someone would take me on?
Giz a job someone out there. If not then food donations also accepted.... O and...
Eh no worries pal. Don't get me wrong a lot of the college side was b*ll***s (plaster of paris mouldings seriously?) And when on site it bordered on slavery but can defo say am at least qualified
Will keep it quick. City & Guilds qualified on 3 yr apprenticeship only recently back on the tools
I enjoy the work and am good at it. The only poss question mark is with speed but quality wise I'd put mine against anyone's.
Quality comes as standard. Quantity ain't far behind.
Looking for...
I'm assuming courser means one of them dodgy 6 week things??
No.
Full 3 year city & guilds apprenticeship alternating between college and working for a firm every 3 months. On completion the 91-92 recession hit and that was that. To be fair at the time it was the excuse I was looking for as I...
Some good feedback there although still no clearer on what to do.
Personally I reckon assuming your lucky enough to get on with a decent firm or crew the younger you start an apprenticeship the better the chance of making a decent living and career out of it. Word of mouth seems the way forward...
When I think back to a few short months ago how optimistic and enthusiastic I was at going back on the tools I feel kinda dumb. Within a year I was gonna be driving a brand new van, have customers outbidding each other for my service and a custom made trowel with the word success engraved on the...
Having said that Im actually quite enjoying being back on the tools now. Obviously the fact Im on the tools now as opposed to mixing baths of browning from dawn till dusk plays a part. And mixing skim back then was done by stick or if very lucky a podger. But after spending years stuck in a...
I reckon I win this one hands down. Does 22 years count as a break??
I started my apprenticeship at 17 which involved switching between a few months at college and then a few months on site and then back to college etc
The college parts were a good laugh but looking back the firm I worked for...
Just my opinion but websites are best when selling a product rather than a service. And when take into account time and costs its more suited towards those already well established rather than those starting out.
Like I said its just my opinion so no offence meant
I'm based in Blackpool. I'm gonna send a speculative letter out to local housing associations and a few of the larger building contractors in the area and see what happens. Ive also made a flyer and will print off 500 and go for a walk. Even 1 job from them may justify the hassle and if nothing...
I've recently picked up the tools again in desperation after finding myself unemployed. I'd completed my apprenticeship many years before then left the trade due to recession.
I've been on a sharp learning curve over the last few months picking things up again but have enjoyed it...
To be honest money wasn't my motivation. It was a foot in the door I needed and that's what I got. And whichever way I look at it I'm better off than I was 2 months ago as I've learnt more in those 2 months than in my 2 year apprenticeship.
Still w*nkers for ripping me off though but karma has...
I guess I'm gonna have to accept your comments are true. It's just hard to know what to do or where to start in finding work. Although admittedly I'm prob not doing myself any favours by working so cheaply but it seemed at the time like any work was better than non. Plus it seemed like less...
To add insult to injury they knocked me. Told.me and the lad was working with had the flat been on price was worth £500
£2.25 m2 skim
£2.65 m2 boarding.
Reveals everywhere and windows and doorways deducted from m2 total
Took us 5 days Inc prep, beads, scrim, dot dab and sand cement chimney...
Well how about you pay my bills and put food on my table and ill quite happily sit at home ya village idiot?
What a tit. Check out my only other post and you'll see I only recently got back on the tools.
Do you think I choose to work for peanuts ya div?
Well if it helps I've just been laid off for being to slow.
Skimming between 30 - 40 m2 per day on day rate of £70 various backgrounds
Admittedly bit pissed off
What a bunch of absolute stars. Thanks lads.
I'm glad I've been honest and he's even said the quality doesn't need to be perfect.
Gonna take the opportunity and smash it. Might not get another one and have spent to many summers in a boiler suit and welding helmet on for £9 an hour wondering...
Ok to briefly explain. 20 years ago I completed a 2 yr City & Guilds plastering course. On completion all went pear shaped in the industry with the big building recession and so due to unemployment I gave up plastering and went into engineering and welding but still kept an interested envious...
