    Skimming Marmox boards

If you're tiling over why do you need to skim? just tile straight on to the boards.

    Filling Gaps in Wall

Unfortunately the plumber is his father in law, otherwise yes I would be saying get them back to do it properly. Does something need to be wrapped around the pipe before bonding?

    Filling Gaps in Wall

Hi All, A mate of mine has just asked for some advice. I have done a fair bit of plastering but not much repair work, so looking to see if anyone can point me in the right direction. He has had a couple of new radiators fitted which has left some pretty ugly holes in the walls. The original...

    Bubbling When Skimming Artex

I tried PVA, 2 coats, first one until dry, second one still tacky, and it didn't work. It was Einstein that coined the definition of stupidity - "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results!" Unless I know why the PVA didn't work, I have to try something else, "it...

    Bubbling When Skimming Artex

Not sure if the Artex is painted or not. The bottom line is that PVA on its own was not enough, lesson learned the hard way.

    Bubbling When Skimming Artex

Carl, absolutely spot on. In my naivity I was using PVA as a key for the multi. Search on this forum for "Artex" and there are still people recommending using it, which is why I did. For the job in hand I will overboard it, it's too patchy now to try to recover it. The two bedrooms that have...

    Bubbling When Skimming Artex

Artex is pimples. There are about 5 patches (4-5cm) where the multi has come away from the Artex, at the time I thought it was a suction problem with the multi not stocking, but then again I'm no expert or I wouldn't be on here asking for advice.....

    Bubbling When Skimming Artex

The Artex is rock solid, it is the multi coming away from the Artex almost straight away in bubbles. I thought I had just made some basic PVA error. Would you still overboard?

    Bubbling When Skimming Artex

Had a bit of a disaster over the weekend. I needed to skim over the Artex in a hallway. I applied two coats of 50:50 PVA, first coat until dry, second coat done just before the skim. When I started to skim I noticed some largish bubbles, about 4/5 cm in diameter, appearing over the ceiling...

    Plaster Mix Quantities

I've got a few walls to do at home and as it is first time plastering I am going to start off with the smallest one's first. The first one I am going to attempt is 4.75 sq m (2.26 x 2.1). How do I know how much to mix? I know all you seasoned professionals will "just know", but is there a...

    Questions about Dot & Dab.

Now that my ceiling has been successfuly boarded, I now nee to dot & dab the walls, but fist a couple of questions. - I have been advised to leave a gap around the bottom of the plasterboard, why is this? how big should it be? - The walls are 2.7m high, so stardard boards will not fill in one...

Sand Cement Ratio for Internal Render

What type of sand would the other half be? plasterers sand? I have lots of building sand and sharp sand left over so the questions was based around using that rather than having to go out and buy more sand. Tight or what! Thanks.

Sand Cement Ratio for Internal Render

Hi All, I have a new ceiling on my utility room. Where the old ceiling was removed, and the new one fitted, there is a gap round the edges, and also some holese wall ties have been removed. The original walls were sand/cement rendered and I now need to fill in the gaps before I board the...

    Plasterboard Hoist/Lift

Has anyone got a recommendation, or have experience of a plasterboard hoist/lift? I have to board a 2.7m ceiling, by myself, and this seems the easiest way. Can't decide whether to buy a cheapie from Ebay, or hire one from HSS. Any help appreciated.
