    Well said, I do agree there mate I have told him but you know what friends and family are like haha, if it was a customer i'd tell them straight up, and If I was dead quiet maybe offer to strip but for the same price as my days rate plastering haha.

    What is the worst condition you have had to work in

    Fixing cornice in a room where chip pies were cutting MDF is definitely up there, that stuff can't be banned in the US for nothing. but no doubt running in situ over a window where there was no actual window fitted, with icy wind and snow blasting in my face.

    I have only ever done this ONCE and it was just a couple of sqm panel on a staircase. many-a-time been asked to just skim over and I have refused, as I am pretty sure the weight would just bring it down, if not the same day maybe another time, dangerous particularly with ceilings. Got a mate...

    Skimming over artex.

    I would scrape the ceiling first, taking off all the biggest/loose bits. if it's not too heavy an artex I would 'blue grit' If possible, if not then ova. if a thick one then light bonding may be used like someone says it can add a lot of weight. sometimes it's all good to skim over the blue grit
