Ok Hector, Thanks for your advice but im still going to have a go, maybe I will do the blog and put it up on here to help people decide if they want to have a go or not rather than listening to the good or bad comments of others. I don't understand what I do for a living has any bearing on me...

I have taken your comments on board hector but cant help feeling you have a very pessimistic view, something which I don't. Maybe your right or maybe your.... dare I say it wwwww wrong. Maybe I should do a blog with my progress and have my work inspected at the end by a professional to verify...

There is a white chalky substance about 10mm thick behind the plaster around the whole room. House was built in the 60's Ceiling hasn't been plastered they just painted the plasterboard!

It has lifted above the window where the concrete lintel was, I am presuming it hasn't keyed well to it or they didn't use a pva strong enough? doesn't look damp in that area.
