Hello All...

Due to my house needing just about every room replastering and only having a limited budget to get things done I have been looming around this site for a while looking for tips.

I am quite interested to find out how I get on and the quality of work I am able to achieve in a short time.

As I don't have a choice or cash to spend the 2 or 3k on getting all my rooms done I am happy to take the plunge and do it myself.

I do appreciate that plastering is a skill and I don't expect to be able to do it to a high standard any time soon, however I am happy to practice so I can get my walls to a standard that I can decorate and be happy with.

So hi to one and all and thanks if advance should any of help me on my journey!!! :RpS_biggrin:

Welcome along brainstorm, lots and lots of great advice has been passed through here, have a good search through the archives using the search box . Always someone on to answer any questions. Best of luck bud :RpS_thumbsup:

brainstorm ,listen to me carefully, I will write this slowly,so you understand , do not get a new television, mobile phone, computer, sky tv, cut down on your weekly shop, save on petrol etc etc etc, but whatever you do get a qualified, time served experienced plasterer in, who will do a good job , these walls will be here for life long after we have gone, they need and must be done right, curtains/carpets/kitchens, etc can all come later.

Ha ha thanks for your comments!!! Ye of little faith!... I have listened to your words of wisdom but am still going to go forth into plastering battle! Come on its only a wall, im not plastering the Sistine chaple!

I must be missing something brainstorm, you say in your original post that every room needs plastered, but really you want the job done cheap, you want the job done tomorrow, and you want a good job done, I say again in all seriousness get a plasterer in ,cut back on everything else even if you just did one room at a time, save some money up then do the next room, over the forthcoming years you will be looking at these walls and the slightest blemish will catch your eye, one last thing what do you do for a living are you a fireman by any chance, or dare I say it a bbbbb ,come on hector breathe slowly ,deeply, you can say this, remember the counselling, okay here goes are you a bricklayer, there I have said it.

I have taken your comments on board hector but cant help feeling you have a very pessimistic view, something which I don't. Maybe your right or maybe your.... dare I say it wwwww wrong. Maybe I should do a blog with my progress and have my work inspected at the end by a professional to verify the standard and put this "time served plasterers say it cant be done" argument to the test! I like a challenge. by the way im not a builder or fireman or anyone of the other YMCA characters you seem to need counciling about!! :flapper:

its a piece of pisss you can do it no problem:RpS_unsure: if you get stuck give davethedog a call :RpS_thumbup:

not a case of being pessimistic brainstorm, joking aside I am trying to give you some honest, serious, good, helpful advice, at the end of the day be it plumbing/electrics/kitchen/plastering, you want a good job done, after all it is your home, and at this time of year get somebody in ,get it done right so come the back end of the year all walls are painted, finished etc etc, you still have not told me what you do for a living , now think about this carefully deep breath, that's it now relax, are you sure you are not a fireman or bricklayer.

Ok Hector, Thanks for your advice but im still going to have a go, maybe I will do the blog and put it up on here to help people decide if they want to have a go or not rather than listening to the good or bad comments of others. I don't understand what I do for a living has any bearing on me being a plasterer but If you need to know I work in an office. :RpS_thumbup:

still not quite sure, so if you are not a fireman or bbbbricklayer, must be an engineer, maybe a teacher, but surely not an eleeeeectrician, cant be ,surely not, all the best on this forum brainstorm,

Im in the York area unfortunately, thanks for the offer anyhow

go to York every year brainstorm last few years been staying at Helmsley, do you know it, then a few days in York at the queens hotel by the river, really nice place of the country you live in, because you live in York area you have my blessing/goodwill to carry out this job as you wish, obviously not the bricklayer/engineer/teacher/electrician part, understandably that cloud is still there, but carry on with the plastering ,start now brainstorm start now my friend, go to that wall and begin, p.s. let us know how you get on, see you in judges lodgings pub later this year, go now go go begin that wall
