Hi all,

If this is against the rules, sincerest apologies and can the mods please delete.

I had a new bathroom done recently. Unfortunately the bathroom fitter's regular plasterer had broken his leg, so he arranged for another guy (from Checkatrade) to do the plastering.

Was due to do so last Saturday, it was a rather nice day but he had a 'flat tyre' - how convenient - he did turn up Monday though. I was at work and couldn't oversee, so my dear old mother popped round to keep an eye on things. Plasterer did his bit, looked ok to my old mum and she told him so. He nipped round to the bathroom fitter who couldn't be at mine during the day, paid him and sent him on his way.

The main walls and ceilings have brown coloured plaster on, whilst some walls (notably behind the toilet) and on plasterboard have this white powdery stuff. The main walls and ceiling look fine, flat and smooth. Have attached some other results though:

Wall.jpg Plasterboard Wall.jpg Wall-Ceiling.jpg Side of Vanity Unit.jpg

1 - Just above the toilet
2 - False wall/plasterboard. That white stuff, left like this.
3 - Bit of plaster has fallen away from the ceiling
4 - Wall/edge of vanity unit. Said he couldn't do much with this 4 inch wide gap.

Bathroom fitter was unhappy, said he shouldn't leave us to do half the work! He's sanded down some of the white stuff to a smooth finish, but some of the remainder was still wet and was for a day or two. He contacted the plasterer, who pretty much said he had his money and wasn't going to do anything about it.

Just how out of order is the plasterer? Looking for a professional viewpoint on what you guys would do and what you feel is a completed job?

Would really help me, as to be honest I have no clue at all about plastering.

Thanks all in advance.

Jesus Christ I hope that's all getting tiled over, if not there's a lot of filling and sanding to do. Whoever did the plastering has no right to call himself a plasterer. SHOCKING!

Yeah not good but luckily not to expensive to put right, down to the bathroom fitter to find someone competent to correct it and pay for it.

Poor workmanship, which the bathroom fitter needs to sort out on your behalf if he was acting as the main contractor :RpS_thumbup:

LOL ruff as xxxx when he got him off check a trade did he go for the cheapest? Or did this guy have a good score?

f u c k i n g h e l l ... thats not plastering, and thats no plasterer... your old dear (and mine) could have done a better job... and no thats not just plasterers snobbery... thats sh'te mate.. absolute sh'te...

child labour never pays

that white powder looks like some old plasterboard dabbing compound he had left over in his van. he run out of plaster probably .

What a joker , dont pay the bathroom fitter till its redone properly ..

I'm wondering if your bathroom fitters just making up stories cause it all sound bit suspicious to me . be caution maybe even get shot of him as well

exactly get on to checkatrade or email me his details and I will make the call.....

Checkatrade have a very strict policy and if he leaves work like that no doubt he will not be on checkatrade long...

Danny

If some came away from the ceiling, this would suggest it wasn't prepped properly and more could come away.

Was he cheap? If you were trying to get something for nothing buy using these sites...thats what you got.

Pay less pay twice.

If i was putting it right id want it all scraped off and start again if hes not prepped and pva'd proper its gonna come off anyway

Checkatrade is not like the other companies....

You can check previous work etc you can see their track record etc

I know a fair few trades dont make the mark when it comes to applying to checkatrade...

I had a long meeting with them recently and looked around their offices and they are very thorough etc.... It takes a lot to impress me and I was impressed...

If I was the OP I would contact checkatrade as I mentioned before... he wont be on their long :)

Oops, looks like i have been caught out now.

What aera do you live in, perhaps some one could pop round and see just haow fkin bad it is.

Hi all,

Thanks a lot for the feedback - it's much appreciated. I wanted to make sure I'm not getting out of line and being an absolute cock before I start ripping this guy apart. Thank you Danny for the offer of checkatrade assistance, may let you know in a few days!

He said he couldn't plaster the 4 inch or so space between the wall and vanity unit - fair?

Is there any good reason why he's used whatever he's used instead of plaster on the plasterboard?

The stud walls were prepped with a few coats of PVA, I know that much.

I am going to get a local guy to come and have a look, get an opinion, price up any remedial work etc. Will give the villain a chance to make good (he does have high ratings on checkatrade), although he's already turned this down once.

Maybe he'll change his mind when he sees this thread.

Will keep you all posted if you fancy some soap opera :)

Im on checkatrade, and for someone to have such high ratings, producing such s**t work (we all know we all make mistakes but thats shocking), he must have cheated to get the high ratings!

Where abouts are you from?

You can get into any gap using a brush, I could plaster a whole wall with a brush if need be...in fact the other day I did, also used my hand and finger...got a good finish.

I have to say I am shocked he has got hi ratings in Checkatrade with work like that.... let me know the company name and I will make a call

Danny
