Nope not a clue John. Sometimes I think you and I are the sane, intelligent ones here mate.
Yeah we've worked over similar. One job I got so pissed off with having to trim the foam off myself that I told them "any more and I'll just work round it, you've been warned". They were warned @John j @algeeman View attachment 44947

One coat is one coat and two coats is, well, two coats. We almost always have fresh gear to lay in with anyway. But you 2 coat from same mix? So you 1 coat then!

I've had the chance to see my two coat work 'cut through' on several occasions and have never been able to see the two separate layers.Your wrong @essexandy
Look at proper 2 coat work around a socket and you will see 2 different separate layers if fresh 2nd applied.
Look at 2 coats from same mix and it will be 1 layer of material exactly same as 1 coating.

What about 3 coat work?
Sometimes needed
I have when f**k*d it up. Did it the other week on my house trying to be a clever c**t instead of putting a tight coat of bonding on and hoping to go from plasterboard to hardwall and levelling up in a cold house.
Admitted defeat and scratched it up and skimmed it next day.
